"Yeah... it's mine... I bought it last year from some Greek bloke I met in a bar. I lent it to Dumbledore to guard..."
Hagrid's big mouth kept rattling on.
"What?!" Harry asked eagerly.
Hermione and Ron glared at him. Harry's question had directly interrupted Hagrid's urge to keep talking.
"That's enough, no more questions! It's absolutely confidential, understand?"
Hagrid said roughly. He would never leak the secret.
Harry refused to give up. "But Snape wants to steal it!"
"Nonsense." Hagrid glared at Harry. "Snape is a Hogwarts professor. He would never do something like that!"
Hermione questioned, "Then why did he try to kill Harry?!"
What had happened during the Quidditch match had changed Hermione's opinion of Snape. Having already decided that Snape was the culprit, she naturally no longer wished to respect someone who wanted to kill her friend.
"If I saw someone casting an evil curse, I'd recognize it, Hagrid! I've read about all of them in books! You have to keep eye contact with them, and Snape didn't blink once. I saw it!"
Hermione tried her best to explain.
"I'm telling you, you're wrong!" Hagrid said irritably. "I don't know why Harry's Flying Broomstick acted like that, but Snape would never try to kill a student!"
"Now, all four of you listen to me! You're meddling in things that have nothing to do with you, and it's dangerous! Forget that Three-headed Dog, forget what it's guarding. It's between Professor Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel..."
Hagrid spoke sternly.
"Aha!" Harry stood up. "So this involves someone called Nicolas Flamel, does it?"
Beside him, Irina covered her face speechlessly.
Hagrid, oh Hagrid!
Were you raised on Veritaserum or something?!
Irina thought.
"I shouldn't have said it. I really shouldn't have let it slip. I really shouldn't have said it!"
