Background / History

Yu Xiaogang is the youngest son of Yu Yuanzhen, sect master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect. Rather than inheriting the sect’s signature Martial Soul, he awakened the mutated Luo San Pao with only half a level of Innate Soul Power, leading to his exclusion and ridicule within the sect 40.

Seeking a way to evolve Luo San Pao, Yu traveled to Spirit City and pursued Martial Soul research. There, he befriended Bibi Dong through their shared interest in reading. Bibi Dong used her status as Spirit Hall’s Saintess to grant him access to the third through sixth floors of the Central Library; after failing to find an evolution method, he requested access to more restricted archives 40.

In the simulations, Yu abandoned his direct search for Martial Soul evolution and instead presented the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, gaining recognition as a Martial Soul Theory Master with Bibi Dong’s support. He later published the Soul Ring Absorption Limit Theory. Qian Renxue regards the former as largely compiled common knowledge and the latter as an unsafe misuse of Spirit Hall’s Soul Ring absorption records 41 42.

By the time he resides at Nuoding Academy, Yu is nearly fifty and remains a level 29 Soul Grandmaster. Though invited to the academy as a teacher, he has reportedly taught no classes for years and survives on his Soul Master subsidy 28.

After purchasing the annual Martial Soul-awakening list for Nuoding City and its surrounding villages, Yu notices Ye Luo’s unusual Innate Soul Power level three despite a Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul. He travels to Maple Forest Village to investigate, but his attempt to obtain Ye Luo’s personal cultivation information without compensation ends when Ye Luo demands access to his books, research notes, and financial sponsorship 13 14.

He presents his research as an effort to benefit commoner Soul Masters, but his conduct toward Ye Luo reveals a transactional double standard: he expects cooperation and personal information for free while refusing to share his own books, notes, or money 14. He is highly protective of his reputation and reacts to public ridicule by adopting the posture of someone accustomed to being misunderstood 146.

In multiple simulated futures, Yu travels to Spirit City to seek Bibi Dong’s guidance on cultivating Twin Martial Souls. Qian Renxue’s agents ambush him after he leaves the Pope’s Palace, imprison and torture him, then release him crippled while misleading him into blaming Bibi Dong 60 146.
