Chapter 28: Red Skull, Don't You Dare Run
Inside the fortress factory.
"Warning! Warning! Prisoners held in the factory's underground have escaped. All soldiers are to suppress them immediately!"
Warning red lights flashed on walls everywhere, and the broadcast system repeatedly played urgent, piercing reports. Guard soldiers inside and outside the factory reacted quickly and sprang into action.
"It seems Steve has already freed the captured soldiers," Kyle thought, still moving stealthily through the factory corridor. Hearing the warning broadcast, he immediately knew Steve's rescue had been successful.
The time was even earlier than expected! He couldn't afford to dwell on it!
Seeing a squad of German Soldiers ahead, Kyle immediately broke his stealth and accelerated with all his might.
He gripped his kukri in his left hand and clenched his right fist, surging forward at an increased speed.
"Enemy attack!" The German Soldier at the front of the squad shouted in panic, pulling the trigger of his rifle. A blinding blue-white laser erupted from the barrel.
The corridor was a straight, narrow passage, making it easy to hit a target without aiming. Moreover, the laser's speed was several times faster than a bullet, making evasion impossible even for someone with a Super Soldier's physique.
Kyle's pupils contracted as the laser beam magnified in his vision, his body's warning hairs standing on end.
He didn't attempt to dodge or defend. Instead, he charged forward with suicidal acceleration. Just as the laser was about to hit his chest, he swiftly swung his right arm forward—
Ching!
The energy laser, capable of instantly vaporizing a person, was actually reflected back by Kyle's right arm!
The German Soldier at the front of the squad hadn't even had time to react before the laser beam he had fired bounced back and struck him. In the blink of an eye, the entire person, along with his helmet and combat suit, was vaporized into mist.
"Just casually reflecting a laser..."
"Is he a monster?"
The German Soldiers wore expressions of terrified disbelief. New Energy Weapons had been high-risk firearms, lethal upon impact, since their inception. This was the first time anyone had seen one rendered ineffective and reflected by a hand.
"Anyone who blocks my path will die!"
Kyle paid no mind to whether the enemy had lost the will to fight. For him now, it made no difference whether the enemy squad counterattacked, fled, or stood there stunned as they were...
It had no practical impact!
Like a cheetah diving into a flock of rabbits, Kyle, having charged into the enemy squad, began reaping lives. His small Nepalese Kukri was like the scythe of the goddess of death; each swing and thrust claimed a soldier's life.
His strength, far beyond that of ordinary humans, combined with the sharp kukri, made the enemy's combat suits and bodies as fragile as paper. Scarlet blood splattered, dyeing the corridor red.
"Get out of my way!" Kyle whispered coldly, elbowing the last soldier away. His right arm, due to the earlier laser beam, had its bandages and sleeve completely vaporized, revealing a vibranium bracer with a cold, metallic sheen.
Vibranium, also known as Adamantium, was not only one of the hardest materials in the Marvel universe but could also absorb heat, energy, and kinetic energy!
Thanks to the vibranium bracer, the laser had lost its destructive power upon hitting Kyle's right hand, and the impact had caused the reflection as seen before.
After forcefully eliminating the squad of German Soldiers, Kyle didn't waste any time, sprinting towards the factory's central control room.
He didn't notice that the scene of him killing the enemy squad had been clearly captured by a camera in the corner of the ceiling and transmitted to the other end of the equipment.
At this moment, in the factory's central control room.
Red Skull, appearing as a middle-aged officer, looked at the more than a dozen monitoring screens before him. A hint of fear flickered across his fake-skinned face.
"Two Super Soldiers have infiltrated the factory?"
The reason he said this was because on one of the monitoring screens showing the factory's underground area, Steve, clad in a blue and white striped bodysuit, was rapidly taking down two soldiers.
And on another screen, Kyle was just charging into the German squad, leaving behind seven mangled corpses as he continued to advance toward them.
"The first one is one thing, but the second one, why is he so strong..." Red Skull couldn't believe it. He knew he couldn't do what Kyle did, treating a squad of German Soldiers armed with New Energy Weapons as if they were nothing.
His Super Soldier physique, pushed to its limits, combined with his superb close-combat skills and decisive killing, made him a veritable war machine.
As fellow Super Soldiers, how could the gap in their strength be so vast?
Although the Super Soldier serum he had injected was merely an initial, incomplete sample, and it had the horrifying side effect of disfiguring him into the Red Skull's appearance, his strength shouldn't have been this different.
Red Skull didn't ponder further. Having calmed down, he activated all the self-destruct switches in the factory. The old doctor behind him asked in alarm, "What are you doing?!"
Red Skull indifferently pointed to a monitoring screen, where Kyle could be seen swiftly passing by the camera. "I can't stop him. Not to mention the soldiers here, even I might not be able to stop him."
"Retreat immediately!" Red Skull said, quickly walking to the control room wall. He opened a hidden compartment, revealing a cube-shaped object glowing blue.
The Tesseract! Let alone this factory, even ten factories wouldn't be worth a fraction of the item before him.
"It should be just ahead!" Kyle accelerated and turned a corner. A straight corridor appeared in his vision, with the control room in the middle.
Coincidentally, at the entrance to the central control room, a German officer was carrying a bag, and an old doctor followed him out. The two were about to leave.
"Trying to run? Leave the Tesseract behind!" Kyle snorted coldly and rushed forward.
"Stop him!" Red Skull had no intention of fighting. He glared fiercely at the doctor and, carrying the bag, retreated towards the end of the corridor.
"Damn it."
The old doctor's face turned pale with fright. Knowing he had been abandoned, his legs went weak, and he slumped to the ground in front of the door.
"I told you, don't even think about running!" Kyle pursued coldly. He was certain that the bag the officer was carrying contained the Tesseract.
"Useless." Red Skull glanced back at the old doctor, but he hadn't intended to rely on an old man to hold back the decisive Super Soldier.
"Try this."
At some point, Red Skull had acquired a New Energy Cube and forcefully threw it at Kyle.
"Gem Energy?" Kyle looked at the incoming energy cube in surprise. This was the raw material for making energy magazines, the blue-quality item he'd drawn from the large base last time.
Could this thing, with its stable energy state, be used directly as a weapon?
Kyle's confusion was answered the next instant. Red Skull pulled out a handgun, aimed at the energy cube still in mid-air, and pulled the trigger.
"This bastard is truly insane!" Kyle roared, accelerating his steps forward. He grabbed the old doctor from the floor of the corridor and used him as a human shield in front of himself.
Simultaneously, the bullet struck the energy cube.
The next moment, even the air seemed to freeze and stagnate—
'BOOM!!!'
The explosion of the energy cube surged outwards like a tidal wave, its destruction sweeping across and impacting everything in its path!
