One night passed.
The next morning, Kyle was awakened by a communication soldier who relayed the Captain's orders for him to report directly to the base's underground command center.
Without delay, Kyle completed a simple wash-up, had Venom adhere to his skin and transform into a black combat suit, and then made his way towards the underground passage, carrying his Sodium-Carbon Steel Sword.
Upon arriving at the entrance of the brightly lit command room, Kyle was surprised to find Steve, clad in his Captain's combat uniform, already there.
And the assembly the Captain had mentioned wasn't just for the two of them; Howard, Carter, Fury, the Colonel Officer, and over a dozen intelligence analysts were also present, nearly filling all the seats around the command table.
"Such a grand assembly. It seems you've obtained some very crucial intelligence from that professor," Kyle remarked as he stepped into the command room.
"Good morning, Major Kyle!" The intelligence personnel saluted him enthusiastically with expressions of admiration upon seeing him.
Howard, shaking his head with a chuckle, said, "Buddy, why are you so late? This war council was just waiting for you."
"I thought you warmonger would have voluntarily missed this operation this time," Fury said, a smile revealing a row of white teeth on his dark face.
"Kyle, over here," Steve beckoned, gesturing for him to take the empty seat next to him.
Carter remained seated without a word, seemingly still upset about last night's events. However, upon seeing Kyle arrive, the solemnity on her cold, beautiful face relaxed.
The Colonel Officer, standing before the strategic map, waved his hand, urging Kyle to take his seat. "I was just about to begin explaining the intelligence; you're not too late. Find a seat quickly."
Kyle nodded, offering a simple wave to acknowledge those he knew, and then sat in the empty seat beside Steve.
Regardless of anything else, Kyle's arrival significantly eased the tense atmosphere in the underground command room. The strained expressions on everyone's faces relaxed, and an inexplicable sense of reassurance settled in their hearts.
This was the unique charm of the hero symbolizing American strength, not just an identity built on empty praise, but forged through solid personal achievements and the number of enemies slain.
"Then I'll get straight to the point," the Colonel Officer coughed, speaking solemnly. "Late last night, intelligence personnel obtained a highly urgent piece of information from the professor who recently joined the Hydra organization!"
"The founder of Hydra, Schmidt (Red Skull), his strategic objective is not merely to conquer European territory, but to destroy half the planet and then rule the entire world!"
Upon hearing this shocking news, most people in the command center frowned deeply.
"This madman should be locked up in a mental institution. Does he really think he's a god?" Carter scoffed.
Fury murmured thoughtfully, "Too insane. This might be the root of why the German Army is no longer willing to cooperate with Hydra."
Howard frowned, saying, "We can't just let him be. Schmidt possesses power far beyond our imagination; his energy weapons are the best proof of that."
Kyle nodded in agreement. After all, he knew better than anyone what Red Skull had in his possession.
The Tesseract! It carried the Space Stone, imbued with the laws of cosmic principles. Its basic usage was enough to create infinite energy, and the explosive power of the Gem Energy cube was something ordinary bombs could hardly match.
The Colonel Officer raised his voice, stating gravely, "We've received even more crucial intelligence: Schmidt plans to fly to America today. Once he crosses the Atlantic, he can level the entire East Coast in less than an hour! Starting from America, it escalates to half the world!"
"How much time do we have left?" Kyle asked directly.
The Colonel Officer quickly replied, "Less than twelve hours."
"That's enough," Kyle nodded confidently.
The Colonel Officer shook his head. "The biggest problem now is that Hydra's final base, unlike the Factory Base you attacked before, is located five hundred feet below the Alps, making it difficult to attack and easy to defend."
"I have an idea," Steve said, who had been silent until now. "If we send in the army directly, Schmidt will definitely seal the base entrance and escape. So, we must send someone to lure them into opening the Hydra base entrance alone, and then our army can seize the opportunity to launch a surprise attack."
"I'll go then," Kyle shrugged indifferently. He had an absurd number of life-saving methods; even if he were to storm the Hydra base alone, he was confident he could retreat safely.
"No," Steve vetoed, looking at Kyle. "You excel at offense; it would be more suitable for you to lead the army's assault from the outside. Besides, would your appearance not directly scare Schmidt away?"
The last sentence clearly held a hint of exaggerated teasing. However, no one in the command room disagreed; instead, they nodded in deep agreement.
The executioner of the German Army, the grinder of battlefields, the hero symbolizing American strength, the demon codename full of killing intent.
The deterrent effect of Kyle appearing on the battlefield was absolutely no less than that of a fully armed elite army. Sending such a man to lure the enemy?
What kind of imperial joke was that!
The Colonel Officer also said, half-jokingly and half-seriously, "Honestly, if I were Schmidt, seeing Major Kyle storm into the base, I would choose to run away directly."
"Don't portray me as a non-human monster," Kyle said, crossing his arms and giving them a cold glance.
"I proposed the plan, please let me go," Steve stood up, saying with conviction. "As Captain America, being a lone decoy will also attract Hydra to actively attack. Therefore, I am the only suitable candidate."
Looking at the resolute and righteous Steve, Kyle's mind inexplicably conjured a description: I, Captain America, will carry the hardest shield and take the most poisonous blows.
"The situation is urgent, and we can't delay any longer. The plan is set! For this mission, all personnel at the base will cooperate with the two of you for the assault—"
The Colonel Officer finished speaking and slammed his palm heavily on the table, expressing his firm resolve. "Then let us begin our action now! We will hunt down and destroy the final Hydra base, and send this madman Schmidt to hell in one fell swoop!"
Three hours later, near the Alps.
The midday sun was bright and abundant. The snow in the mountain forests reflected dazzling light.
'Boom boom!'
A series of explosive, noisy engine sounds suddenly erupted. Steve, with his round shield strapped to his back, rode his motorcycle, quickly speeding through the snowy forest path.
His hands tightly gripped the handlebars as he accelerated, the motorcycle's rear emitting blue flames and exhaust. Its wheels crushed snow and branches as it roared towards the main entrance of the Hydra base at full throttle, alone.
'Whoosh whoosh whoosh—'
These sounds came from behind Steve. It was over a dozen other enemy motorcycles following closely, pursuing him like shadows.
"The fish are biting."
On the snowy mountain beside the forest, Kyle looked down coldly at the motorcycle chase in the woods, like a hunter preparing to strike, patiently awaiting the imminent battle.
The Venom combat suit he wore also vibrated subtly, conveying its own excitement due to the host's heightened state.
The next few chapters will be the climax.
