Background / History

Wang Siyi was born into a scholarly Jinling family. Her father, Wang Weimin, is president of Jinling University and a member of the Huaxia Poetry Association; her mother, He Shumin, is a lecturer at a university law school; and her late grandfather was a famous painter. She concealed this background after entering entertainment, partly because her parents initially opposed her singing career. 2 53 220

She debuted under the stage name Wang Wanjun and rose to become Xinyi Huyou's biggest star and a second-tier singer. Her progress owed much to agent Chen Baozhu, who secured resources and opportunities for her. Despite this success, the company demanded that she attend social dinners and drinking parties and sought to exploit her for capital interests. Siyi refused, leading to her lead single being reassigned and her career being suppressed. 2

After her grandfather's death, Siyi returned to Yangcheng, where she owned an apartment near one formerly belonging to him. On an earlier visit, she was nearly molested by drunken thugs before Li Changle intervened. Later, when she forgot her keys and was stranded outside her apartment, Li took her in; his repeated care during her difficult periods became the basis of her attachment to him. 2 26 330

Career

Xinyi Huyou conflict

Siyi refused Xinyi Huyou's unspoken rules and was put on ice. Though she considered leaving entertainment entirely, she felt she owed her fans a proper farewell. 29

As her popularity surged through performances including “Red Bean,” Xinyi attempted to retain control of her. Chen Zhiyuan tried to use photographs of her with Li Changle to force a contract renewal, but Siyi refused. 108 175

After her contract neared its end, Siyi chose not to renew and planned to form her own studio with Chen Baozhu's support. 183 215
