Background / History

Birth and unstable lineage

Eriyi developed from the embryo designated “ξ” into a human infant with visible scales and deep rose-red eyes. Mercer named her Portgas D. Eriyi, while Kureha's examination identified conflicting Human and Dragon Kind lineage factors; the stronger Dragon Blood was eroding her human side. 86

Despite being newly born, Eriyi physically developed at an extraordinary pace. She learned to speak, walk, use utensils, and recognize one hundred characters within a week, aided by her high-level Dragon Blood. 86 Mercer taught her the Free Breathing Method, which she learned unconsciously by matching his breathing while asleep. 86

Kureha became her primary caretaker during Mercer's absences and monitored her condition. Initial treatment plans involved Dragon Blood-suppressing serum, possible Dragon Kind or Human lineage-factor serums, and Breathing Technique training to help Eriyi control her own blood. 86

Stabilization and training

Eriyi's Dragon Blood became dangerously active while Mercer was away, leaving her feverish, unable to speak coherently, and surrounded by an instinctive cutting domain. 117 By matching her breathing frequency and linking their consciousnesses, Mercer used the Body of All Things to bring her Dragon and human lineage factors into temporary harmony. 117

The treatment reduced her lineage erosion, but did not fully cure it. For a time, Mercer needed to regulate her bloodline fluctuations every two or three days through synchronized breathing and Armament Haki. 120

Eriyi trained alongside Mercer and his companions, quickly mastering Rokushiki fundamentals and later developing her Dragon Bone State, Observation Haki, swordsmanship, and greater control over Judgment. 132 152 154 During training on Rusukaina, she and Bear Cub worked together to locate I.Q. plants and survive the island's beasts. 153

Origin transformation and later journey

After years of travel and training, Eriyi's Dragon Blood reached EX grade. She absorbed multiple Concepts alongside Mercer and developed further physical changes, including dragon wings. 282

Mercer later gave Eriyi an Origin Fruit containing the Concepts of earth, fire, water, wind, time, space, luck, and regeneration. 301 She subsequently gained the ability to transform into a graceful Western dragon covered in pearly white scales. 302

Eriyi secretly separated from a group traveling through the Eclipse Gate, using her Space-Time abilities to arrive one hundred years ahead of schedule so she could reunite with Mercer earlier. 327 After further study and travel in the magic world, she wove her own Space-Time Authority and began a conceptual-body transformation. 329
