The book recorded the story of a Buddha attaining Dao.
Two thousand years ago, a Buddhist disciple named Huien appeared at Leiyin Temple, one with exceptional Buddhist roots.
Huien was gifted and astonishingly perceptive; he could grasp the mysteries of any Buddhist doctrine in an extremely short time. However, his behavior was peculiar.
Ordinary Buddhist disciples strove to comprehend the Great Dao through Buddhist teachings, thereby attaining the fruit of Buddhahood, but Huien took a different path.
He used Buddhist teachings to temper his physical body, seeking to attain Dao through the flesh.
This approach was vastly different from the Cultivation Method of Buddhist disciples and naturally met with their resistance.
The abbot of Leiyin Temple at the time was furious, branding Huien a heretic of Buddhism and casting him into the Demon Suppressing Pagoda, to spend his life among ten thousand demons.
Huien had originally been the undisputed candidate for the next abbot of Leiyin Temple, yet now he was condemned to dwell with myriad demons—a fall from heaven to hell.
But Huien remained unmoved, persisting in his path of attaining Dao through the body. In the Demon Suppressing Pagoda, he sat for eighty years.
Eighty years later, a Peerless Demon Lord crossed the realms, stood atop the Demon Suppressing Pagoda, and sought to break its seal, releasing the demons imprisoned within.
Though Leiyin Temple possessed deep foundations, none of its many Buddhas could match the Peerless Demon Lord.
Just as the Peerless Demon Lord was about to succeed, plunging the entire Eight Nations of Canglan into slaughter and turning it into a hell on earth—
At that moment, golden light blazed from within the Demon Suppressing Pagoda. Huien had finally attained Dao, cultivating the Indestructible Golden Body.
He shattered the pagoda and emerged, engaging the Peerless Demon Lord in fierce battle.
No matter how heaven-defying the demon lord's demonic power, he could not breach Huien's Indestructible Golden Body.
They fought for nine days and nine nights, until at last the Peerless Demon Lord's demonic power was exhausted. Huien captured him and suppressed him beneath the Demon Suppressing Pagoda.
Huien became famous in a single battle, rescuing the Eight Nations of Canglan from great calamity.
After this battle, the current abbot, overcome with shame, resigned his position and voluntarily entered the Demon Suppressing Pagoda to suppress the demons.
Once Huien became abbot, he went further and further down the path of the Golden Body, ultimately attaining the fruit of Buddhahood.
[You have observed Huien's life. You were very attentive, activating Heaven-Defying Comprehension.]
[Your Heaven-Defying Comprehension has allowed you to comprehend the Indestructible Golden Body.]
This time, it was actually the Indestructible Golden Body! Ye Jing completely lost his composure, nearly crying out in shock.
It wasn't that Ye Jing lacked self-control, but that the Indestructible Golden Body he had just comprehended was far more valuable than the previous two.
Fortunately, this place was relatively secluded, and no one noticed Ye Jing's lapse.
Ye Jing quickly composed himself, closed his eyes, and carefully sensed the changes brought by the system.
In his mind, images of Huien battling the Peerless Demon Lord surfaced—a clash that shook heaven and earth, darkening the skies.
As an observer, Ye Jing appreciated this epic battle. Every move and stance of Huien's allowed him to grasp the mysteries within.
Gradually, Ye Jing couldn't help but begin to cultivate.
Time in the mountains passes without notice; a thousand years may slip by in the mortal world. Immersed in cultivation, Ye Jing felt no passage of time, and before he knew it, an afternoon had passed.
Ye Jing slowly opened his eyes, sensing the changes within his body, boundless joy shining in his gaze.
If anyone had been paying close attention, they would have noticed a faint golden glow emanating from Ye Jing's body.
I've already cultivated the Indestructible Golden Body! Does that mean I'm now invincible among my peers?
Among the three thousand Great Daos, the Sword Dao holds the greatest killing power; among the ten thousand Dharmas, the Indestructible Golden Body is supreme.
Yet both have their drawbacks.
Though Sword Cultivators possess immense killing power, their defenses are extremely weak; once an enemy closes in, they are easily defeated.
The Indestructible Golden Body's defense is indeed unmatched. Legend has it that when Huien cultivated it to its ultimate peak, even the God of Heaven and Earth could not harm him in the slightest.
But the Indestructible Golden Body's lack of offensive power is equally obvious. If an opponent wishes to flee, there is no means to stop them.
Over the centuries, Dali has produced many exceptionally talented individuals who sought to merge these two great methods into one, but all failed.
Mastering even one of these—the Sword Dao or the Indestructible Golden Body—to its peak already makes one a standout of the era. Only Ye Jing, with his Heaven-Defying Comprehension, could grasp both of these heaven-defying ultimate techniques in such a short time. This shows just how powerful the system is.
"Boundless merit, truly a great Buddha." After writing this eight-character commentary, Ye Jing closed the history book, tidied the scrolls on his desk, arranged them neatly, and then turned to leave the Hanlin Academy.
Leaving the Hanlin Academy, Ye Jing headed to the Myriad Treasures Pavilion to find the ingredients for refining the Marrow Cleansing Pill.
That morning, Ye Jing had just completed the first of the Three Innate Steps—Body Refining. He had originally planned to stay on this step for a few more days, striving for a solid foundation.
But now, by chance, he had learned the Indestructible Golden Body, and his Body Refining realm had reached perfection. There was no need to reinforce his foundation.
On the road, the autumn wind was bleak. On the streets, the common people were fearful, not daring to speak to one another, exchanging only glances. The entire Imperial Capital was shrouded in a solemn atmosphere.
Patrol enforcers could be seen everywhere, holding portraits of Yao Qingyin, comparing them to every passerby. Some even brutally kicked open the doors of ordinary homes.
They entered empty-handed and left carrying chickens and ducks, unmoved by the commoners kneeling and wailing bitterly.
This scene played out repeatedly before households dressed in rags.
Ye Jing stood in the distance, watching coldly. A flicker of pity crossed his eyes, but he was powerless.
It was said that the current Emperor Li was incompetent and fatuous, and under his rule, Dali's people lived in misery.
Ye Jing hadn't felt this deeply before, but now, witnessing it firsthand, he understood why Hu Jie was so outraged at Dali and at Emperor Li.
In broad daylight, the Night Watch Division dares to seize common folk's property by force—who knows what appalling deeds occur in the dark corners where none can see.
Perhaps, for this realm, a change wouldn't be such a bad thing after all.
Arriving at the Myriad Treasures Pavilion, Ye Jing purchased all the medicinal herbs needed to refine the Marrow Cleansing Pill, then turned and headed back.
After the evening meal, he had Qiuyue fill the bath bucket with hot water, closed the door, and only after confirming Qiuyue was fast asleep did he retrieve the herbs from beneath the bed, ready to refine the Marrow Cleansing Pill.
He summoned the Innate Fire and began calcining the herbs in proper sequence.
Though both were second-grade pills, the Marrow Cleansing Pill was far more difficult to refine than the Foundation Building Liquid, with numerous intricate and complex procedures.
The Marrow Cleansing Pill could well be counted among the three most difficult second-grade pills to refine.
An ordinary second-grade alchemist might spend an entire lifetime and still fail to succeed even once.
But for Ye Jing, now a master of the alchemical path, the Marrow Cleansing Pill and Foundation Building Liquid were no different.
Relying on his peak-level flame control technique, it took only the time of three incense sticks for Ye Jing to refine the Marrow Cleansing Pill.
Gazing at the pill in his hand, crystalline as jade, Ye Jing hesitated not a moment. He swallowed the Marrow Cleansing Pill in one gulp, then sat cross-legged, beginning to refine its medicinal power.
