Background / History

Yu Mingfei was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect but possessed a defective mutated Dragon Clan Martial Soul. After an attempt to help Dugu Bo's granddaughter Dugu Yan left her consumed by poison, the sect expelled him and treated him as a scapegoat, apparently intending to hand him over to Dugu Bo. He escaped into the back mountain rather than submit to the sect's decision. 1

While hiding, Yu devised the Earth Meditation Method to improve his physique. He later traveled to Holy Spirit Village, stole the Blue Silver Emperor's seed and right leg bone, and used the bone's life force to repair his Martial Soul's congenital deficiency. The process broke his Level Nine bottleneck and restored his path as a Soul Master. 2 3 95

He entered the Star Dou Great Forest alone to obtain his first Soul Ring, avoiding regulated Soul Hunting Forests because expulsion had left him without the necessary connections or paperwork. After killing a Hundred-Year Xun Wu Leader, he gained his first ring and began pursuing increasingly dangerous methods of cultivation. 3 4

Yu was later rescued from the Nuoding River by Liu Erlong, Jiang Zhu, and Yin Shu after being poisoned and scarred. Though Liu Erlong treated him as a junior clansman, he remained guarded about his past and goals. 13

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Yu used immortal herbs, the Blue Silver Emperor bone, the Eight Spider Lances, and the divine spring's opposing forces to temper himself. Yu can be blunt about the moral cost of his actions. He acknowledges that stealing the Blue Silver Emperor made him a thief and robber, but accepts this as a consequence of pursuing strength on the Douluo Continent. 3
