Background

Xiaobai has guarded Sea God Island for tens of thousands of years as the Sea God's mount and the king of the Demon Soul Great White Shark clan. Despite his position, he wishes to remain a free Soul Beast rather than become human. His deliberately simple and carefree demeanor comes from a preference not to overthink matters, rather than genuine ignorance. 120

Twenty years before Yu Mingfei's arrival, Xiaobai led his clan out to hunt and was exploited during an invasion of Sea God Island. He blamed himself for the incident and thereafter divided the clan into separate hunting and patrol groups so that the island would never be left without protection. 120 140

Xiaobai encounters Yu Mingfei while leading his clan against the Evil Spirit Orcas. Yu Mingfei's powerful Dragon Clan bloodline makes Xiaobai instinctively feel close to him, and Xiaobai ultimately allows the apparently weak Soul Master to ride on his back. 60 61
