Background and History

Following the Third Great Ninja War, Tsunade spent years away from Konoha. Known as the “Ninja World’s Fat Sheep,” she drank and gambled heavily, earning a reputation for exceptionally poor luck; she was also believed to take bounty work while traveling. 101 102

Jiraiya and Nanfeng sought her out at Short Fence Street to persuade her to return to Konoha. Nanfeng first encountered her in an izakaya, where she arrived with Shizune after drinking for hours. 101 103 104

When Orochimaru offered a deal to restore his hands, Tsunade refused after concluding that Medical Ninjutsu could not repair a soul damaged by his body-transfer techniques. Kabuto then exploited her hemophobia during their Medical Ninjutsu duel, leaving her unable to fight until Nanfeng intervened. 108 110

Tsunade returned to Konoha and became the Fifth Hokage. Early in her tenure, she challenged Danzo over Root’s unaccounted funds, forcing him to submit to a financial audit by threatening to involve the Land of Fire’s Daimyo. 115

As Hokage, she accepted Nanfeng as her disciple, guided his development of her combat style, and supported Sakura’s growth as a Medical Ninja.
