Background and History

Obito was once a Konoha shinobi on Minato Namikaze’s team with Kakashi Hatake and Rin Nohara. He and Kakashi frequently clashed but cared about each other on missions. After Obito was buried during the battle at Kannabi Bridge, Madara rescued him and kept him in a hideout while his damaged body recovered with help from White Zetsu 380 403.

Seeing Rin die at Kakashi’s hand changed Obito’s view of the world. Madara manipulated him into carrying on his plans and placed a curse mark in his heart. Obito later acknowledged that Rin had run into Kakashi’s Raikiri willingly, but continued to blame the world that had put her in that position 370 378 381.

Appearance

Obito commonly hides his face behind a mask. Extensive bodily reconstruction leaves much of his body derived from First Hokage cells, including a replaceable left arm made from White Zetsu 179 225 316.

• Eyes — His Sharingan progresses from red to purplish-red and later fully purple; Ten-Tails power produces a further tomoe-patterned change 316 327 406.
• Regeneration — He rapidly heals severe wounds, and losing his White Zetsu arm causes neither pain nor bleeding 225 370.

Personality

Obito is calculating, secretive, and willing to treat allies as expendable when pursuing his plan. He claims that controlling the world through dreams will bring peace, while his actions are also driven by revenge against war and those he holds responsible for it 236 315 329 371.

His attachment to Rin persists beneath that resolve. When immense power threatens to tear apart his soul and erase her from his memories, he struggles to retain both his identity and his memory of her 402 405.

Kamui

Obito uses Kamui to move through its separate dimension and render his body intangible against attacks 183 225 318.

• His enhanced Kamui can move him to any location within his line of sight, at increased chakra cost 317.

Sharingan Genjutsu and Chakra Interference

• Obito controls Shukaku through Sharingan genjutsu, though Nanfeng breaks that control and leaves him mentally unstable 181 183.
