More than a year after they had last seen each other, Ethan felt Zhao Cai had become a little clingy.

Just like before, he found two quilts and drew a line down the middle of the bed. The bed in the apartment was much larger and softer than the one in the guild's temporary lodgings, giving Zhao Cai plenty of room to stretch out. But the Ragdoll Cat still wasn't satisfied. After the gas lamp went out, Zhao Cai raised a paw and scratched his back.

When Ethan turned around, he saw Zhao Cai reaching both paws toward him. Her red eyes glimmered in the moonlight.

She wanted a hug before she could fall asleep.

Cat made a request.

Ethan felt a little helpless. Was Zhao Cai actually the "afraid of being lonely" type?

Even so, he did as she asked.

Cat's body was soft, and her snowy fur felt a little cool against his skin. At last, she closed her eyes in contentment, her eyelids fluttering.

Ethan caught a strange fruity scent. Trying to figure out what fruit it smelled like, he leaned closer, but Zhao Cai cracked one eye open and suddenly pressed her head against him.

Ethan got his wish and smelled the top of Cat's head, so it was only natural that his lips ended up against Zhao Cai's forehead.

Cat's prank worked, leaving Ethan with a mouthful of fur.

Zhao Cai laughed so hard that her whole body shook in his arms.

In the end, Ethan never did figure out what fruit the scent belonged to.

But for the first time in ages, he slept soundly.
