Background / History

Rowena was born in an ordinary border village. Her parents were killed in a bandit attack while she was young, and the villagers raised her on leftover food. At age seven, a passing Astrology Guild Magician noticed her talent and brought her into the Guild as an apprentice. 203

She specialized in Divination and passed the Third Order examination before any of her peers. Her pursuit of money was initially tied to a desire to repay the village that had raised her. 203 Her relationship with her mentor later collapsed after she created Cutting Magic, a Destruction spell outside her Divination specialization. She became a wanted criminal after killing her mentor and fleeing the Empire. 203 209

At some point, Rowena joined the Dream Eaters and became Winter’s partner. Her criminal reputation spread under the name “Blood Feast,” though she was notably more stable and dependable than many other cultists. 84 217

Appearance

Rowena is a red-haired Magus whose hair color is described as unusually rare within the Empire. She is capable of radically altering her presentation through cosmetic and illusion magic. 130 152

  • Usually wears hand-dyed red-and-white Astrology Guild robes. 153
  • Often uses a self-made Smiling Face Mask during covert work. 90 153
  • Carries an Ebony Wand while operating undercover at the Academy. 250
  • Relies heavily on Ethan’s electric wheelchair following an injury, treating it as her personal property. 140 152
  • Assumed the form of a small purple bat during the Magic Beast Plane expedition. 296 304

Personality

Rowena is boisterous, prideful, stubborn, and intensely profit-minded. Praise makes her visibly pleased, but she is quick to demand payment for even minor errands. She treats Divination as both her specialty and her most reliable source of income. 137 154

Despite her former reputation, she is practical rather than needlessly cruel. She researches targets, arranges contingencies, and prefers information advantages over direct confrontation. Her willingness to use Truth Serum, disguises, blackmail, and improvised weapons makes her especially effective in covert operations. 251 255 308

She frequently exaggerates her accomplishments, including fabricated claims about an extensive romantic past. Her jealousy over Winter’s closeness with Ethan is a recurring source of tension. 171 251 Rowena is deeply attached to Ethan after joining his group, regarding him as an adoptive-father figure and defending him with unusual intensity. 212

Story Role / Major Arcs

Bounty Hunter and Other Shore’s False Death

Rowena was hired by the Lofik Consortium to assassinate the Knight Commander, while the Elder Council’s order called for no survivors. Ethan exposed that her supposed emergency Fireball scroll was a trap intended to ensure her death if captured. 85

Rather than complete the mission as ordered, Rowena cooperated with Ethan’s plan to fake Other Shore’s death. She used illusion, transformation, potions, and staged violence to make the deception convincing enough for Imperial authorities. 85 98

Joining Old Sen Magitech

After receiving her bounty, Rowena sought continued work with Old Sen Magitech rather than parting ways with the group. She argued that Ethan needed a knowledgeable Grand Magus and became involved in its Magitech projects, local hiring efforts, and investigations. 98 130 137

Mage Tower Incident and Kadra Duel

Rowena accompanied Ethan to investigate the Scholar’s apparent death at the Mage Tower. The Scholar’s plan named Rowena as a possible successor who could end the institution’s succession crisis. 204 206

Kadra attempted to frame Rowena as the mastermind behind the Scholar’s death. After Ethan revealed Kadra’s involvement, Rowena accepted the role of Sincaro’s Chosen One and challenged Kadra to a formal duel. 209 210 She won through superior dueling technique, Cutting Magic, and eventually direct physical force, leaving Kadra to be destroyed by Sincaro. 211

Root and the God-Monks

Following Kadra’s fall, Rowena helped reorganize the surviving God-Servant network. With Palancy, she established the name Root, describing the organization as support for the Empire operating wherever shadows existed. 213 214

She later proposed absorbing the God-Servants into the Forest Guards under the name God-Monks, giving the new government a covert body for work the cabinet could not openly perform. 213

Academy and Magic Beast Plane Operations

As an Imperial envoy, Rowena investigated the Academy’s hidden research and infiltrated the Mole Club under the identity “Nana.” She offered the club access to Old Sen Magic Scroll Shop supplies while gathering intelligence on the Academy’s underground activities. 250 251
