Call the Ghost Out for a Look? A Mind That Worked Differently

Micah jokingly asked Kati what her exorcist could do.

Kati confidently declared that he was a professor of paranormal studies who could talk to ghosts and all that.

At that, Micah pointed to Li Dan and introduced him with great ceremony.

"This is a master exorcist from the Holy See. He commands the power of demons!"

Kati laughed. She thought her boyfriend was joking.

The young man and his girlfriend both looked like students.

Li Dan listened without interrupting. He wasn't a circus performer who had to put on a show whenever someone doubted him.

Halfway through their bickering, the doorbell rang.

Kati went to answer it with the camera in hand. The visitor had graying hair and wore a khaki jacket and trousers. He looked to be in his fifties, composed and full of energy.

Judging by his appearance and age alone, he certainly seemed more convincing than Li Dan.

As Kati spoke with him, the others learned more about him.

Friedrich was a medium, not a professor with an academic background.

Kati had called Friedrich a professor because they had met online, where his name included "Dr. Friedrichs." It was easy to mistake him for a university professor.

Locally, though, "Dr." was an honorific for mediums or religious figures, much like Father or Master, not an academic title.

As soon as he entered, Kati ushered her boyfriend, Li Dan, and Ashley aside to give Friedrich room to investigate.

That annoyed Micah. He quietly told Li Dan that he definitely trusted him instead; the old man didn't look like much.

Li Dan merely smiled.

Kati and Friedrich had been talking online for a long time, but he asked her to tell him everything again in greater detail.
