Exorcists with all sorts of strange abilities, they had seen.
Manipulating evil, however, was a first.
Judging by this child's display of power, his potential for growth was immense. If he could mature, he would make a very strong partner in the future.
* * *
But Lorraine guessed this ability likely came with negative side effects.
If Li Dan were to be tempted into falling, it would be a huge problem for the Church.
Conversely, they might gain a powerful external ally in the future.
Therefore, the couple was willing to write a letter of recommendation to the Church, but only if Li Dan could prove he had complete control over the Clown. Only then would they genuinely introduce him.
Of course, they were also willing to help Li Dan.
Li Dan was unaware of the Warrens' internal thoughts; his desire to become an Exorcist was entirely for the sake of that privileged status.
Being an Exorcist allowed him to avoid many troubles and provided a legitimate reason to intervene in supernatural events without raising suspicion.
Coupled with the Church's connection, many privileged circles would open up to him.
After all, no one was unafraid of death.
The richer they were, the more they feared death.
After Li Dan recalled the Soul Severing Clown.
The first thing Ed did was pat Li Dan on the shoulder by way of encouragement.
"We'll write the recommendation letter as soon as we get back. If you encounter any supernatural phenomena, try to leave the area and report it to the Church, or notify us. It's not something you can handle right now."
Lorraine also said gently, "If you encounter any trouble you can't resolve, feel free to contact me anytime."
The couple cared a great deal about Li Dan; teenagers in their formative years were most susceptible to temptation by evil.
If they weren't so busy, they would have even wanted to stay and conduct a thorough investigation into Li Dan's psychological and family issues.
For now, they could only communicate by phone. Once they had free time, the Warrens would immediately travel to Li Dan's home to assess his abilities.
Li Dan nodded.
"I will, Mr. Ed."
The three exchanged phone numbers.
The Warrens then promptly left the University of California.
The couple was very busy; there were supernatural events to handle all over the country, and they had to discern the real from the fake. Li Dan was the only person worth their stopping for.
Others, like the interview with Lance Purr, were all uniformly rejected.
This once led Lance Purr to set his sights on Li Dan, but the latter refused even more decisively and then drove home with Trish and Daley.
When Li Dan first followed Daley to his old, beat-up car, he fell into a pensive mood.
In the past, he traveled in Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royces.
Now, suddenly switching to...
Would a decrepit old car really not get stuck in traffic?
"How is it?" Daley asked, quite proudly. For someone his age, owning a small four-wheeled vehicle was already a matter of great pride.
Li Dan's myriad thoughts ultimately condensed into a single word: "Not bad."
He then called over a service attendant to fill up the gas tank.
After refueling.
Daley and Li Dan got into the car. Daley was driving, and they still had to pick up his sister at a motel near the university.
It was a bright and beautiful spring weekend.
After driving out of the city, Daley steered the old car onto a country road, one hand on the wheel and the other resting on the open window, occasionally glancing at the scenery outside.
If Li Dan hadn't sponsored the travel expenses, he really wouldn't have dared to take the slow, leisurely country road.
In the back seat.
Trish chatted animatedly with Li Dan. The journey was boring, and her brother only argued with her.
Li Dan, as an outsider, naturally became the target of Trish's chatter.
Li Dan was also quite happy to chat with Trish. Her smooth blonde hair shone in the sunlight. That golden hair color, paired with her fair skin and deep-set eyes, was pleasing to the eye no matter how you looked at it.
Her red tank top tightly outlined her chest, and her long, slender legs were snugly encased in a pair of jeans, perfectly showcasing her figure.
"Li Dan, are you a Chinese international student?"
"Yes."
"Why did you suddenly come to California?"
"Because I'm very interested in the supernatural."
"Wow, you're really amazing. The Warrens only stayed for you for a short while," Trish praised him without reservation.
Li Dan just smiled.
Daley, in the driver's seat, suddenly asked, "Li Dan, can you drive?"
Li Dan: "No."
Daley continued, "Why?"
Li Dan said helplessly, "Because the butler doesn't let me. He says driving is a dangerous activity."
Daley fell silent, but his pride as a peer wouldn't let him back down.
"Where do you live?"
"Be more specific."
"Collingwood Manor, near Round Clam Town."
Before Daley could speak, Trish exclaimed in surprise. Collingwood Manor was quite famous in Florida.
With ancestors who were witches and vampires, it was hard not to be famous.
The Chinese international student in front of them was the owner of Collingwood Manor? It seemed impossible no matter how you looked at it.
Yet, that was the reality. Li Dan couldn't be bothered to explain.
Explaining would only devalue it.
Daley, on the other hand, didn't believe it at all and even proposed visiting Collingwood Manor.
When he said this, he tried to find a flustered or guilty expression on Li Dan's face, but there was none.
Li Dan remained nonchalant the entire time.
Li Dan could answer all of Trish's questions one by one, to the point where Trish's eyes sparkled as she looked at him. Don't misunderstand; it was pure admiration for strength.
Trish also wanted to visit Collingwood Manor, even if it was just to take a few photos to show off to those little brats at school.
Daley drove the car in silence, feeling bored.
His gaze drifted, and he suddenly noticed a strangely dressed person by the roadside. At this weather, everyone wanted to wear as little as possible.
And here was someone wearing a loose black coat and a wide-brimmed hat. How strange.
Daley mentioned this to the other two.
His sister, Trish, wasn't interested. She kept chatting with Li Dan, leaning closer and closer until their thighs were touching, both feeling the contact with every bump in the car.
Facing Trish's thirst for knowledge, Li Dan instead turned to Daley and started a conversation.
The specific topic was the strange person by the roadside.
This made Trish very unhappy with her brother. They were having a good conversation, and he had to butt in.
What was so interesting about a strange person by the roadside?
In fact, the two of them became more and more engrossed in their conversation.
Until an old truck quietly followed them. This startled Daley.
He honked to signal the truck to go ahead, but the truck not only didn't go ahead but rammed hard into the back of the vintage car.
The car shook violently.
Trish was thrown forward by the inertia, almost flying to the front. Fortunately, Li Dan reached out, wrapped his arm around her waist, and pulled her back.
"Holy crap, what's your problem?"
Daley couldn't help but stick his head out the window and curse at the truck behind them.
This curse seemed to ignite the truck driver's rage. Without any reply, the ramming became even more violent.
Tell my truck to go away.
The vintage car was almost falling apart. Seeing her brother still cursing and Trish leaning in Li Dan's arms, she told him to calm down.
Arguing with a big truck would only put them at a disadvantage.
If things went wrong, they could get into an accident.
Their lives could be at stake.
"That truck doesn't want to let us go," Daley said, swerving a few times. He looked in the rearview mirror while steering and shouted.
Finally, with the vintage car on the verge of breaking down, they had to swerve off the roadside to end it.
Daley stared intently at the truck. Although he couldn't see clearly, he was sure the driver was the strangely dressed person he had seen standing by the roadside earlier.
Trish was still shaken.
Li Dan had already observed everything clearly through his Ghost Card.
"Detected traces of containment subject: Bat Person."
Bat Person, plus Trish and Daley, this pair of siblings... isn't this the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
All set.
Compared to the Deformed Person ogre.
Although the Bat Person can also be called an ogre, the combat power of the two is not on the same level at all.
One mutates from chemical waste.
The other is a pure horror creature that has just awakened after decades of slumber, possessing not only regenerative abilities but also flight and powerful defenses.
How strong are its defenses? It can ignore Gatling gun fire.
It's completely a sky-based Evil Spirit Wendigo.
Of course, it might not compare to the second stage, but it's still extremely good.
This is at least an elite monster.
