Background / History

Nuoding Academy

Yu Xiaogang promoted his self-proclaimed Ten Great Spirit Master Theories at Nuoding Academy, assuring Wu Xian that they could develop his Martial Soul and claiming that Innate Full Soul Power with a supposedly weak Martial Soul necessarily indicated a second Martial Soul. Wu Xian rejected the theories as untested conjecture and accused Yu Xiaogang of repeatedly blocking him to recruit him. 1

His pride was closely tied to his theories and to Tang San’s potential. When Wu Xian challenged the logic of his claims about Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power, Yu Xiaogang could not publicly explain Tang San’s second Martial Soul, fearing Tang Hao’s reaction. 2

Tang San wagered the credibility of Yu Xiaogang’s theories in a duel against Wu Xian. Yu Xiaogang encouraged Tang San not to hold back, but Tang San was defeated decisively after Wu Xian displayed a Thousand-Year first Soul Ring. 2 3

Pressed to concede that his theories were wrong, Yu Xiaogang instead proposed a second duel: if Wu Xian won, he would publicly denounce his theories; if Yu Xiaogang won, the prior wager would be void. Wu Xian immediately bound and knocked him unconscious. Yu Xiaogang ultimately did not make the promised public declaration and left Nuoding City early with Tang San. 4 6 19

Departure from Nuoding City

Yu Xiaogang initially intended to leave Nuoding City with Tang San only after persuading Xiao Wu to accompany them to Shrek Academy, following Tang Hao’s instructions. After Xiao Wu disappeared, Tang Hao ordered him to leave immediately, making his prior efforts to recruit her pointless. 16

When Tang San learned Xiao Wu had been taken away, Yu Xiaogang reassured him that he could reunite with her once he became strong enough. Unable to identify Xiao Wu’s family, he told Tang San that he could only reveal it after Tang San reached Soul Saint level. 17

Spirit City and the Rakshasa Heart

Yu Xiaogang later entered Spirit City to study under the Pope’s special approval. He believed this opportunity resulted from his own intelligence, unaware of the price paid by his father to secure it. His stated ambition was to become renowned enough to force those in the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan who had looked down on him to apologize. 21

He repeatedly sought out Bibi Dong and attempted to impress her with his theories. He also offered to plan Zhang Lexuan’s cultivation path despite having no demonstrated success training powerful Soul Masters. 21

After being publicly humiliated by Wu Xian, Yu Xiaogang retreated to an alley, vented his anger on a stray dog, and took out the Rakshasa Heart. The Rakshasa God used the artifact to encourage his pursuit of Bibi Dong, promising to help him win the Martial Soul Hall Saintess’s heart. 22

Wu Xian confronted him, seized the Rakshasa Heart, then later stripped Yu Xiaogang of his storage Soul Tools, money, and clothing before leaving him behind. Yu Xiaogang subsequently departed Spirit City. 22 27 30

Shrek Academy and Later Events

At Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang focused on training students while imagining Tang San and the others achieving fame and publicly crediting him as their teacher. 83

He was stunned by news that the Clear Sky Sect had been annihilated by the Tang Sect, initially refusing to believe that one of the Upper Three Sects could have fallen. 84

When Tang San was intercepted by apparent Tang Sect elders, Yu Xiaogang stepped forward to protect him. He identified himself as “Master,” claimed to be an honorary elder of Martial Soul Hall, and described Bibi Dong as a close friend in an attempt to deter the elders. 89

During the encounter, Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong—participating through an illusion—responded angrily to his claims. Liu Erlong struck him with flame, leaving him unconscious. A later report states that Yu Xiaogang was intercepted and imprisoned to keep him from causing further trouble in the Douluo II Parallel World. 90 91

Appearance

Yu Xiaogang is described as having an aged, stiff, deathly pale face. During arguments and humiliation, his complexion frequently reddens or turns green with anger and embarrassment. 1 3 4

Despite his insecurity, Yu Xiaogang can be protective toward Tang San. He repeatedly encourages his disciple, places faith in his abilities, and risks confronting stronger apparent opponents to shield him. 2 17 89

His resentment can turn cruel when he is humiliated. In private, he blamed more talented Soul Masters for mocking him and kicked a stray dog while venting his anger. 22
