Background

Yu Ershan was born frail after a difficult birth that damaged his constitution and foundation. Unlike Yu Dashan and Yu Xiaoshan, who inherited their father’s burly build, he resembled their deceased mother: fair-skinned, delicate, and physically weak-looking. 10

During the Yu family’s early crisis in New Moon Blessed Land, he contacted Qiu Xiaoxiao of Yangshan Gathering Place for aid. Her response included one hundred Spirit Stones, half of which Yu Ershan allocated to Yu Dashan’s cultivation and half to nurturing the family’s Rare Species, the future Elm Ancestor. 10 11 He personally used a Spirit Stone to nourish the tree, then advocated a measured rate of one stone per day rather than reckless overfeeding. 12

He repeatedly protected the family through resource management and calculated displays of status. While purchasing pills and medicinal grass for Yu Dashan, he impersonated the young master of a Qi Refining family, spending a Spirit Stone on convincing clothing and having Yu Dashan pose as his guard to deter opportunists. 43 Yu Dashan later offered his battle merits to repair Yu Ershan’s injured foundation, and Yu Ershan began recovering it with an Essence after the wind disaster. 70 78

After reaching the Great Rift Valley, Yu Ershan emerged as the Yu family’s practical leader. He arranged for Bao Youwei to return to his former home as an informant and resource contact, spared a Blood Devouring Beast for future use, and personally entered Yangshan Gathering Place with Bai Yao to rescue Qiu Xiaoxiao. 106 109 Qiu Xiaoxiao subsequently became his wife. 207

When Cangwu was ready to become a heaven-and-earth spirit root, Yu Ershan formally identified himself as the Yu Family Patriarch. He declined Yan Yuheng’s offer to share the title of Blessed Land Lord, stating that the Yu family’s ancestral duty was to serve the Elm Ancestor rather than rule a Blessed Land themselves. 169 He instead became the architect of the wider Pan Valley order.

Yu Ershan was initially conspicuously frail beside his brothers, with fair skin and delicate features inherited from his mother. 10 As his standing rose, he cultivated a gentle, refined presence; ten years later, he commonly wore a plain white magic robe. 180

His caution is paired with genuine responsibility. He puts Yu Dashan’s cultivation, Pan Valley’s defenses, and the needs of ordinary cultivators ahead of short-term gain or family favoritism. 60 253 330 When selecting ten Guardian God candidates, he excluded Yu Shuyin despite their family connection because Pan Valley’s needs came first. 253

He is not driven by the ambition to become Holy Lord or co-lord of the three races. Under Hua Miaoyan’s Heart-Questioning technique, he realized that his central purpose was protecting the Elm Ancestor, then rejected an overextended protection agreement because he would not make promises beyond Pan Valley’s capacity. 330
