Logistics Soldier Assessment

Logistics Soldier camp.

Li Lei paced anxiously back and forth outside the camp.

Although Li Xuan and he shared the same surname, they weren't related. They just happened to belong to the large Li clan.

If there was any relationship between them, it was one of competition.

They belonged to the same Military Camp and had both been tasked with training newcomers, so naturally they were rivals.

After returning from the War Soldier training grounds, he'd wanted to find Li Xuan and demand an explanation, to see whether Gu Han still had a chance of survival.

But he'd learned that Li Xuan hadn't returned to camp either.

Just as Li Lei was growing anxious, he suddenly spotted Gu Chen and his brothers in the distance, heading toward the Logistics Camp.

Li Lei's heart gave a sudden thump. This is bad.

Gulp.

Li Lei swallowed, then forced himself to smile as he went to meet them.

When Gu Chen saw Li Lei, he chuckled and handed him a money pouch.

"Brother Li Lei, do you know if Gu Han has returned?"

Gu Chen considered Li Lei a senior of sorts to Gu Han. Although he was only a Logistics Soldier, Gu Chen wouldn't look down on him.

Seeing how amiably Gu Chen treated him, Li Lei felt his scalp prickle even more.

He didn't dare imagine how much trouble Gu Chen would stir up in the Military Camp if he found out something had happened to Gu Han!

At the thought, Li Lei decided to buy himself a little more time.

Maybe Gu Han had gotten lucky and escaped Li Xuan's grasp. Or perhaps Li Xuan had only taught Gu Han a lesson and hadn't killed him.

Although Li Lei thought that was unlikely, given Li Xuan's temper.

Still, he decided to stall for as long as he could—at least until Li Xuan returned and could share some of the pressure.

That way, Gu Chen would turn his attention toward Li Xuan.

Li Lei forced a smile.

"Gu Han hasn't returned yet. Why don't you all come back tonight?"

Gu Chen didn't think much of it and simply waved his hand.

"No need. We'll wait here for a while."

With that, Gu Chen led his brothers toward several tents in the distance.

Li Lei had no choice but to follow, steeling himself.

This part of the camp was set aside for Logistics Soldiers to have their hunting spoils tallied after returning from an outing.

Every Logistics Soldier's haul was recorded, and they were ranked according to what they brought back.

The Logistics Soldiers who ranked near the top would receive corresponding rewards.

By now, several Logistics Soldier squads had returned to camp and handed their bundles to the staff to tally their spoils.

Since many Logistics Soldiers wanted to hunt more prey and earn a higher ranking, they wouldn't return so early.

Gu Chen understood this. And knowing Gu Han was the competitive sort, he wasn't worried that Gu Han hadn't returned yet.

Many Logistics Soldiers had gathered around the staff as they tallied the bundles.

Besides the new Logistics Soldiers, there were also some veteran Logistics Soldiers in charge of leading the squads.

If the newcomers performed well, their squad leaders would receive corresponding rewards too.

"Four Tier 1 White Rabbits and three Tier 1 Gray Rabbits."

"Seven Logistics Points in total."

At the staff member's words, the five members of the squad looked somewhat embarrassed.

They'd spent the entire afternoon hunting only seven rabbits. If word got out, they'd be a laughingstock.

But when they saw that the squads behind them had done about the same, and that even the most successful had only hunted ten rabbits, they all breathed a sigh of relief.

It was embarrassing to make a fool of yourself alone, but if everyone made a fool of themselves together, it was fine.

Just then, another squad stepped forward and dropped several bulging bundles onto the table with a thud.

A wave of shocked gasps rippled through the crowd.

"Damn, those bundles are packed full. How much prey could be inside?"

"If they're all rabbits, there must be at least four or five times what our squad got!"

"Good grief, comparing ourselves to them is enough to kill a man."

"Maybe there are just more rabbits in their area. They got lucky, that's all."

Among the Logistics Soldiers, some were envious, while others, unable to enjoy the grapes, claimed they were sour.

But Li Lei wasn't surprised. Instead, his face darkened.

The squad had only four members, and it was Ma Tie and the others!

The fact that only Ma Tie's four-man squad had returned meant that, at least for now, Gu Han had most likely not escaped danger.

After a whole day of training, Gu Chen and the others were famished.

They sat nearby, eating to fill their stomachs as they watched the staff tally the spoils, and didn't notice Li Lei's change in expression.

The staff member also looked at Ma Tie and the others in surprise.

Just by the weight of their spoils, they'd rank in the upper middle tier among Logistics Soldiers of previous years!

He picked up the Snakeskin Bag and dumped everything inside onto the table.

A chorus of incredulous exclamations rose from the crowd.

"H-how is this possible?"

The staff member was stunned too. There was actually a Green Wolf among the prey!

The Green Wolf didn't look fully grown, but its value couldn't compare to that of any Great White Rabbit or Great Gray Rabbit.

Ma Tie was worried about Gu Han's safety, so the crowd's amazement didn't go to his head.

"Hello, could you please tally these for us?"

Only then did the staff member come back to his senses at Ma Tie's voice.

"Sorry for the wait. Please give me a moment."

Every Wild Beast was worth a set number of Logistics Points, and the staff member quickly finished tallying the results.

"One Green Wolf, worth twenty Logistics Points; fifteen rabbits, worth fifteen Logistics Points."

"Thirty-five Logistics Points in total!"

At the staff member's words, an uproar swept through the crowd.

"Thirty-five? We busted our asses all afternoon and only got seven Logistics Points. Thirty-five is insane!"

"That's a Green Wolf! A single one is worth as much as the spoils from three of our squads!"

"Heh. They just got lucky and killed a Green Wolf, that's all."

"Quit acting tough! If you ran into a Green Wolf, forget killing it—you'd run faster than a dog!"

Although the crowd was envious, only Ma Tie and the other three knew that they owed their haul entirely to Gu Han.

Without him, the four of them would've brought back at least half as much prey!

And killing that Green Wolf would've been utterly out of the question!

Yet Gu Han, who had contributed the most, was now still missing and might be dead, while the four of them got to keep all the spoils.

At the edge of the crowd, Fang Yan and the other Logistics Soldiers had just returned from the wilds. Seeing Ma Tie and the others envied by everyone, he immediately snorted.

"It's just a Green Wolf. What's the big deal?"

Someone nearby heard him and looked at him like he was an idiot.

A Green Wolf? Did he think just anyone could kill one?

Ma Tie glared at Fang Yan. If that bastard hadn't tried to steal their Green Wolf and provoked Li Xuan into taking revenge, Gu Han wouldn't have gone missing!

Fang Yan passed by Ma Tie with an arrogant look. Only then did the others notice that he was dragging a huge bundle!

It was every bit as impressive as the bundles Ma Tie and the others had just turned in!

And Fang Yan's companions had bundles on their backs too!
