Background
Sun Wukong is a monkey born from a stone and a figure associated with Empress Nuwa. Liu Bing later suggests that his birthstone may have been one of Nuwa's sky-mending stones, though Wukong himself is uncertain of the full truth 157.
He spent much of his life bound to the Journey to the West arrangement, becoming the Victorious Fighting Buddha while still restrained by the Golden Hoop. Although the Heavenly Court had provided him with resources, he comes to believe that the Western Heaven was responsible for manipulating and suppressing him in order to secure the pilgrimage's completion 119 157.
In the Primordial World, Wukong has established a peaceful civilian life alongside his strength. He operates Old Sun's Farmhouse Restaurant in the Flower-Fruit Mountain Scenic Area, works as a chef, brews Monkey Wine, and runs Flower-Fruit Mountain Security through magically empowered hair clones 92 95 179.
Appearance
Sun Wukong is described as a handsome man when appearing in human form. His clothing varies dramatically according to his work, role-playing, and combat circumstances.
- Wears a full chef's outfit while working at his restaurant 92.
- Returns to the attire of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven after freeing himself from the Golden Hoop 159.

Personality
Wukong is restless, theatrical, and fond of mischief. He enjoys being called “Boss Sun,” plays elaborate roles to create a grand impression, and readily turns serious confrontations into jokes—such as offering an injured Guanyin a Band-Aid after defeating her 118 180 183.
Despite his playfulness, he is fiercely principled toward cruelty and coercion. He sees through Xin Yu's past at a glance, refuses to excuse him, restores Xin Yu's victims by severing their karmic ties to him, and condemns him to experience the suffering he inflicted on others 94 95.
He values freedom and brotherhood. Once he resolves to oppose the West, he stands beside Yang Jian, Nezha, and Zhu Bajie without hesitation, particularly after learning what happened to his monkey descendants 159 160.
