Golden auspicious clouds filled the surroundings, and a small green planet floated in that cloud-wreathed space. Not far above it, the end of the azure Snake Way could be faintly seen among the clouds.

On a small tree, North Kai lay leisurely asleep in a hammock, snoring away with a bubble hanging from his nose.

Ever since Majin Buu had been destroyed by Goku and the others twenty years ago, the universe had become completely safe. All the gods had set down their heavy burdens and begun enjoying life, and even the long-suffering North Kai had finally escaped his days of hardship and could relax.

A breeze stirred the grass, bringing a trace of coolness. Not far from North Kai, a great ape tilted its head. After its calls went unanswered, it picked up a stone and threw it at North Kai's head. Smack. North Kai clutched his head and let out a cry of pain, tumbling out of the hammock.

"Bubbles, don't disturb my sleep."

Wisps of smoke rose from the stove, and before long, North Kai carried out a steaming meal and handed it to Bubbles, then sat on a stool with his own bowl and began eating.
