History

Humble beginnings

Xu Chuan was born to Xu Ping, a lifelong laborer for Dongxi Village’s established Xu household. Orphaned by fifteen, Xu Chuan resigned from that employment, bought ten mu of paddy land, and began building an independent livelihood through farming, carpentry, archery, fruit cultivation, and herb growing 1.

After marrying Bai Jing, Xu Chuan acquired mountain forest and planted Green Jade Pears despite local skepticism. The trees bore fruit six years later, providing the family with a stable foundation for growth 1.

Xu Chuan’s hidden Bloodline Genealogy initially recorded only himself. As his children were entered into it, the family discovered unusual talents, including Xu Mingxian’s cultivation aptitude and the potential that would eventually move the clan from martial arts into cultivation 1 15.

Commercial rise and clan establishment

The Xu Family first accumulated wealth through Green Jade Pears, produce, and farmland. It then opened a county-town fruit shop and rapidly diversified under Xu Mingyuan’s management, using Xu Chuan’s stored knowledge of liquor brewing, clothing, soap, perfume, and cooking to establish businesses throughout Qingjiang County 22 27.

The family’s commercial rise coincided with the martial prominence of its children. Xu Mingwei’s strength, Xu Mingyuan’s business acumen, Xu Mingxuan’s martial education, Xu Mingshu’s affinity with beasts, and Xu Mingxian’s concealed potential made the household a subject of county-wide attention 30.

The clan formally opened its Ancestral Hall during its Clan Establishment Ceremony. Xu Chuan stressed that the hall existed not only to house ancestral tablets, but to strengthen kinship, educate descendants, and preserve the difficult work of founding the family 30.

Transition to cultivation

Xu Chuan made martial arts practice mandatory for descendants after discovering Xu Mingxian’s cultivation aptitude. The Innate Five Elements Creation Technique became the family’s core inherited method for descendants capable of cultivation 15.

When the Yuan, Huang, and Lu Families attacked Dongxi, the Xu Family exploited the Huang and Lu Families’ defection to destroy the Yuan Family. It absorbed the remaining Yuan resources into new spirit fields, medicinal gardens, and defensive formations 190 191.

The family and its Zhou allies later defeated the Feng and Bai Families. Xu Mingyuan then secured the Feng Family’s former territory as the site of a Guangling Prefecture branch, led by Xu Mingwei and Xu Mingyuan 200 201.

After settling its conflicts with the Cao and Sima Families, the Xu Family established the Immortal Martial Alliance to govern eleven prefectures under its influence. The clan simultaneously began compiling its Family Genealogy and Clan Chronicle to preserve its history and lineage 242.

Yunxi expansion

The family later established itself in Yunxi Town, opened a Xu Family Store, absorbed the Wu Family’s resources, and used its pill, artifact, formation, and talisman supply to gain influence over local cultivators 248.

The clan does not treat primogeniture as absolute. Xu Chuan’s stated principle is that the generation’s strongest martial cultivator should deter enemies, the person of best character and management ability should serve as Patriarch, and the most capable merchant should manage finances 55.

The family’s rules are intended to remain flexible rather than rigid. Cultivators form the clan’s strategic core, but Xu Chuan maintains that they must remember their mortal origins and preserve a people-centered foundation 150.
