Background
Xu Mingxian was born alongside his twin sister, Xu Mingshu, and entered into the Xu Family Genealogy at their Full Moon Banquet. His initial record identified an All Five Elements, Impure Spiritual Root and the Destiny Talent Swallowing Mountains and Rivers, making him the Xu Clan's first confirmed descendant with cultivation aptitude. 15
Although he appeared unremarkable to outsiders in his youth, he progressed through the Martial Dao and revealed exceptional swordsmanship while defending the Xu orchard alongside Xu Mingyuan. Xu Mingyuan noted both his skill and his notably cold disposition in battle. 30 53 After entering the Innate realm, Xu Mingxian learned the Xu Clan's core inheritance and began pursuing both martial and immortal cultivation. 63
He later focused on formations, first establishing a rudimentary Spirit Gathering Formation and then dedicating himself to the repair and deduction of the Xu Clan's protective formation. 88 110 115 His talent drew the attention of Cang Fengheng, who accepted him as a disciple and granted him the Cang Family's Formation inheritance through Third Order. 261
Xu Mingxian agreed to a marriage alliance with Zhou Zongni for the Xu Clan's future, while making clear that he would not compel her to bear children and that she could pursue cultivation freely. 153 159 They later had a daughter, Xu Deyue, and a son, Xu Deze. 161 191
Appearance
Xu Mingxian is described as exceptionally refined and transcendent, with a presence compared to a lone pine in snow or a bright moon. Among Xu Chuan's sons, he was noted for looking the least like the rest of the Xu Family. 153
- Often wears moon-white robes or fitted cultivation attire. 153 268
- Carries a calm, detached bearing even in hostile situations. 268
- Can be altered into an aged, white-haired cultivator through Xu Chuan's vitality-sealing method. 351
Personality
Xu Mingxian is calm, restrained, and intensely focused on cultivation. He openly states that he does not wish to be occupied by the Xu Clan's mundane affairs, preferring to devote himself to the Immortal Path and the Formation Dao. 159 351
His detachment does not extend to his family. His desire to protect the Xu Clan drove him to develop battle formations rather than remain solely a rear-line support cultivator. This realization became central to his Dao Heart. 321 He is particularly close to Xu Mingshu despite their frequent teasing; as twins, they are stated to have the best relationship among the siblings. 159
