Ch. 404Intertwined Power, Thunder Flame Mode

After Infernape developed Energy Intertwining from its Fire and Electric powers, Fang Yuan withdrew from the tournament so it could recover. Learning that the condition might recur if Infernape used Rage Form and Thunder Armor in the same battle, Fang Yuan decided to develop a way for it to combine the two powers.

  • Fang Yuan withdrew from the tournament because Infernape was being treated at the Pokémon Center in Icefield City.
  • Qiao Yiyi and Duan Xue could not resolve Infernape’s Energy Intertwining, so Fang Yuan brought it to Doctor Lu for examination.
  • Doctor Lu said Infernape would recover with rest but warned that using its special flames and lightning energy in the same battle could trigger the condition again.
  • Fang Yuan told Infernape to use at most one of Rage Form and Thunder Armor per battle, leaving Infernape dismayed about its restricted strength.
  • Fang Yuan recalled a Charizard that overcame Energy Intertwining and decided to train Infernape toward an “Intertwined Power, Thunder Flame Mode.”

Ch. 405Preparing to Leave, Fang Yuan Tournament

After Infernape recovered from its tournament injuries, Fang Yuan prepared to leave Icefield City and tested his Pokémon’s training results on the icefield. Eevee’s overwhelming display left the others wary ahead of Fang Yuan’s planned prize-money tournament.

  • Fang Yuan watched Wang Xuanliang defeat senior Feng Yin in the semifinals and then win the Fighting Tournament final with Machamp against the Kommo-o Trainer.
  • Infernape recovered from its injuries, learned Calm Mind, and received the Bulk Up manual and a promise of a separate treasury for its tournament reward.
  • Fang Yuan planned a points-based Fang Yuan Tournament among Eevee, Magnezone, Gluttony Ghost, Infernape, and Milotic, with a million-yuan prize pool.
  • After Infernape recovered a week later, Fang Yuan took the five Pokémon to the icefield, fitted Milotic with its Never-Melt Ice ornament, and asked each Pokémon to demonstrate its training.
  • Eevee created a Substitute and unleashed a Spiral Shadow Ball and an Ultimate Spiral Burst Sun Fire Awakened Version, whose collision blasted a hole through the clouds and stunned the other Pokémon.

Ch. 406Iron Sand Whip! A Hundred Punches in Fifteen Seconds!

Fang Yuan’s Pokémon demonstrated their latest combat techniques, with Eevee, Magnezone, and Infernape displaying powerful new moves. Infernape finished its showcase with a hundred electrically enhanced punches in fifteen seconds, while Fang Yuan considered how its other enhancement technique might increase its power.

  • Eevee demonstrated spiral Shadow Ball, Awakening Power: Fire, and Psychic techniques stabilized by Payback Move Version 3.5.
  • Magnezone created a vast Electromagnetic Storm that changed the weather and drew iron sand from underground.
  • Magnezone shaped the iron sand into vibrating whips and Assassin Needles, slicing the ground and riddling it with holes.
  • Infernape used Thunder Armor with Focus Energy and Concentrate to unleash electrically enhanced Mach Punches.
  • Infernape struck a massive boulder with a hundred attacks in fifteen seconds, reducing it to dust.
  • Fang Yuan praised Infernape’s speed and considered how Rage Fire combined with Fire Punch might increase its destructive power.

Ch. 407Strength Ranking! Infernape's Rise

Fang Yuan held the First Fang Yuan Tournament after returning to Flat City, giving his Pokémon a chance to test their strength. The tournament established their ranking, with Infernape securing third place after its evolution.

  • Fang Yuan returned to Flat City with his team and organized a tournament with one held item per Pokémon and Gluttony Ghost's Black Will-O-Wisp banned.
  • Eevee defeated Magnezone, then withdrew against Infernape, Gluttony Ghost, and Milotic; Infernape and Milotic also withdrew from their matches against Magnezone.
  • Gluttony Ghost challenged Magnezone but lost when Magnezone's Electromagnetic Storm overwhelmed its Will-O-Wisp Armor Giant.
  • Infernape narrowly defeated Gluttony Ghost using Thunder Armor, then beat Milotic in the lake with Rage Fire despite Milotic's type and terrain advantages.
  • The tournament ranked Fang Yuan's team as Eevee, Magnezone, Infernape, Gluttony Ghost, and Milotic, and Fang Yuan awarded them prize money and planned to hold the tournament every six months.

Ch. 408School Begins: Learning the Shadow Contract

After the tournament, Fang Yuan visited Teacher Zhou Youyou at Modu University to learn the Shadow Contract for Gluttony Ghost. Zhou explained its three stages and began training him in the first two.

  • Milotic trained harder after losing to Infernape, while Gluttony Ghost ate more and complained that Fang Yuan’s restriction on its Black Flame had cost it a higher tournament ranking.
  • Fang Yuan went to the university’s Haunted House facility after school began to meet Teacher Zhou Youyou and learn the Shadow Contract on Jiang Li’s recommendation.
  • Teacher Zhou demonstrated the technique with her Gengar and summoned Gluttony Ghost to join the lesson.
  • Teacher Zhou explained that the first stage required Gengar to merge completely with its shadow, while the second required it to use Shadow Punch, Shadow Claw, and Shadow Ball in shadow form.
  • Teacher Zhou described the third stage, which involved living in shadow form with a Trainer, eating their dreams, and eventually sensing danger through a mental connection.
  • Teacher Zhou said she would teach Fang Yuan the first two stages and hoped he could master them within a month.

Ch. 409Luo Ke Is Back

Teacher Zhou Youyou taught Fang Yuan about Shadow Contract, and Fang Yuan planned a year of training for his Pokémon. Back at the dorm, he reunited with Luo Ke, who brought Training Methods from Millennium Gengar Nai He for Gluttony Ghost.

  • Teacher Zhou Youyou explained Shadow Contract’s stages and said its completed form could protect a Trainer, while combat applications would require extensive research.
  • Fang Yuan planned to train Gluttony Ghost and Milotic, while aiming for Master Level combat power for his main Pokémon before the 2020 World Pokémon League Conference.
  • Fang Yuan returned to the dorm and found Luo Ke waiting instead of Eevee.
  • Luo Ke told Fang Yuan that Millennium Gengar Nai He had sent Training Methods for Gluttony Ghost: Transform into Shadow to Fight and Curse Ability.

Ch. 410The Countless Ways to Play with Shadows

Luo Ke demonstrated the Millennium Gengar’s shadow-control techniques to Fang Yuan and Gluttony Ghost, showing how shadows could attack, restrain, curse, burn, and enable teleportation. Fang Yuan ordered Gluttony Ghost to learn the techniques, and Luo Ke began teaching it a training method that seemed far more efficient than Zhou Youyou’s.

  • Luo Ke used hypnosis to show Fang Yuan and Gluttony Ghost Gengar’s shadow-control techniques in an illusion.
  • Gengar attacked targets through their shadows, swallowed Arcanine into its Inner Space, and used shadow links to immobilize it and strike from a distance.
  • Luo Ke demonstrated how Gengar could cast Curse and Destiny Bond through shadows, restrain multiple foes, ignite shadows with Will-O-Wisp, and teleport between shadows.
  • Fang Yuan told Gluttony Ghost to learn the techniques, and Gluttony Ghost agreed to train so it could surpass Infernape.
  • Luo Ke began demonstrating the Millennium Gengar’s training method, which Fang Yuan found much more efficient than Zhou Youyou’s.

Ch. 411Return to Modu University Library

Fang Yuan planned his Pokémon’s training for the coming year and searched Modu University Library for ways to develop Magnezone’s lightning, Infernape’s Thunder Flame Mode, and Gluttony Ghost’s soul-burning Black Flame. He found little on the first two, but a theory on controlling Life Energy gave him an idea for Milotic’s healing moves.

  • Fang Yuan reviewed Eevee, Magnezone, Infernape, Gluttony Ghost, and Milotic’s training needs, then assigned himself three research goals.
  • Fang Yuan left Gluttony Ghost with Luo Ke and searched Modu University Library for information on Shiny Lightning, Thunder Flame Mode, and soul-related materials.
  • Fang Yuan found little about Shiny Lightning or Thunder Flame Mode, but learned that Reaper Cloth and Dusk Stone could carry spirit energy and planned to study them.
  • Fang Yuan borrowed books on Healing-type Moves and read Micro-Regulation Theory, which proposed that perfect Life Energy control could improve healing.
  • Fang Yuan considered whether Eevee could help Milotic gain insights into controlling Life Energy, then wondered why Eevee always had to teach everyone.

Ch. 412Eevee's First Caught Pokémon

Gluttony Ghost mastered the first two stages of the Shadow Contract, while Fang Yuan’s Life Orb research earned him a Senior Researcher certification that he kept secret. The chapter ended with Eevee claiming Fang Yuan’s new Rotom Phone as its own and treating Rotom as its first caught Pokémon.

  • Gluttony Ghost demonstrated its mastery of Complete Shadowification and Shadow Control, startling Teacher Zhou Youyou, and Fang Yuan declined to begin training the dream-eating Third Stage.
  • Fang Yuan’s Life Orb paper led Modu University to approve his Senior Researcher certification, which Director Mu agreed to keep confidential at Fang Yuan’s request.
  • Senior Xie Qingyi’s promised Rotom Phone arrived, and Eevee insisted that Rotom change the phone holder’s identity to Eevee.
  • Rotom accepted Eevee as its Trainer after Eevee threatened it with a Shadow Ball, leaving Fang Yuan to wonder whether Eevee had caught its first Pokémon.

Ch. 413Fang Yuan's Sixth Pokémon

Fang Yuan explored the Rotom Phone’s training and research functions with Eevee, then learned from Xie Qingyi that Dragon Den would open within half a month. He decided to travel to Dragon City the next day to seek his sixth Pokémon.

  • The Rotom Phone explained its training, research, and vehicle-operating skills to Fang Yuan and Eevee.
  • Eevee focused on using the Rotom Phone’s holographic imaging to watch shows, frustrating Fang Yuan.
  • Xie Qingyi called Fang Yuan and asked whether he remembered her opportunity to enter Dragon Den and catch a Dragon-type Pokémon.
  • Xie Qingyi told Fang Yuan that Dragon Den would next open within half a month and advised him to wait in Binhai City, also called Dragon City.
  • Fang Yuan agreed to leave the next day to pursue his sixth Pokémon.

Ch. 414The Strongest Trump Card: Mega Evolution

Fang Yuan prepared his research institute, acquired the Key Stone, and worked to strengthen his bond with Gluttony Ghost before setting off for Binhai City. He arrived in the Dragon City to wait for Dragon Den to open, deciding against challenging the local dojo.

  • Fang Yuan arranged to establish Fang Yuan Research Institute near Sun and Moon Forest Secret Realm, where Luo Ke and Gluttony Ghost could help secure abundant resources.
  • Fang Yuan visited the Research Building and arranged to auction a King's Rock and Reaper Cloth while securing the Key Stone for himself.
  • Fang Yuan fed Gluttony Ghost special Energy Cubes to strengthen its Shadow Energy and build affection before it evolved.
  • Fang Yuan left for Binhai City with Eevee and Rotom Phone, then chose not to challenge Azure Dragon Dojo while waiting for Dragon Den to open.

Ch. 415Deep Sea Secret Realm, Azure Dragon Dojo

Fang Yuan visited the Trainer Association in Binhai City, where he learned that a possible deep-sea Secret Realm was causing Water-type Pokémon to come ashore, and registered as a Trainer. He then went to the Azure Dragon Dojo to ask about entering the Dragon Den, but Sect Leader Yun Miao invited him to watch the apprentices’ battle training, setting up a test of his ability.

  • Fang Yuan read the Trainer Association notices about Water-type Pokémon coming ashore and recorded how to volunteer for the response.
  • Fang Yuan registered his information at the Pokémon Center in the Trainer Association.
  • Fang Yuan arrived at the Azure Dragon Dojo and explained to Yun Miao that Xie Qingyi had referred him and that he wanted to enter the Dragon Den.
  • Yun Miao, still displeased because Xie Qingyi had defeated the dojo’s Trainers, decided to assess Fang Yuan’s qualifications.
  • Yun Miao invited Fang Yuan to watch the dojo apprentices’ battle training, and Fang Yuan agreed.

Ch. 416So Many Dragon-type Pokémon~~~

Fang Yuan toured the Azure Dragon Dojo with Yun Miao, who arranged a battle to judge whether Fang Yuan was strong enough to attempt the Dragon Island Trial. Fang Yuan and Yun Guancheng took their places in the arena as the dojo apprentices gathered to watch.

  • Fang Yuan observed the Azure Dragon Dojo’s powerful apprentices and noticed that many of their supposedly Dragon-type Pokémon were not actually Dragon-types.
  • Yun Miao asked Fang Yuan to battle so he could assess his strength before allowing him to go to Dragon Island.
  • Yun Miao introduced Fang Yuan to Yun Guancheng, an apprentice and former Champion Road student who had just defeated an Altaria with his Dragonair.
  • An apprentice summoned the others to watch, while Fang Yuan and Yun Guancheng prepared to battle and Rotom Phone urgently requested support.

Ch. 417Bloom, Milotic!!

Fang Yuan and Yun Guancheng began a two-on-two battle on a water-and-land field, with Milotic facing Yun Guancheng’s Kingdra. Kingdra’s superior Hydro Pump broke through Milotic’s attack, but Milotic stopped it with a spinning wall of water as the battle continued.

  • Fang Yuan asked Yun Miao to change the arena into a water-and-land field with an open ceiling, and Yun Miao operated the battlefield controls.
  • Yun Guancheng sent out Kingdra, while Fang Yuan released Milotic, whose beauty immediately charmed Kingdra and stunned the watching Dojo Apprentices.
  • At the start of the battle, Fang Yuan and Yun Guancheng both ordered their Pokémon to use Hydro Pump.
  • Kingdra’s compressed Hydro Pump pierced Milotic’s attack, but Milotic blocked the stream with a rotating wall of water formed by Whirlpool.
  • Yun Guancheng ordered Kingdra to use Rain Dance while moving with Agility.

Ch. 418Super Self-Healing Physique!

Fang Yuan’s Milotic battled Yun Guancheng’s Kingdra, enduring devastating attacks through its extraordinary healing ability before collapsing from exhaustion. Fang Yuan then sent out Shiny Haunter, whose shadow-based combination trapped Kingdra and battered it with Shadow Balls.

  • Yun Guancheng’s Kingdra used Rain Dance, Swift Swim, and Waterfall to overwhelm Milotic, but Milotic healed rapidly with Aqua Ring and Recover while striking back with Twister and Charm Body.
  • Kingdra boosted itself with Dragon Dance and relentlessly attacked Milotic, eventually landing Draco Meteor and inflicting severe injuries.
  • Milotic healed its wounds once more but ran out of energy and collapsed, so Fang Yuan recalled it after seeing the potential of its Super Self-Healing Physique.
  • Fang Yuan released Shiny Haunter, which used Wonder Room, Mean Look, and Disable to trap Kingdra through their connected shadows.
  • Gluttony Ghost unleashed a barrage of Shadow Balls that severely struck Kingdra, leaving Yun Guancheng stunned.

Ch. 419Salamence!!!

Fang Yuan’s Gluttony Ghost battled Yun Guancheng’s powerful Salamence after defeating Kingdra, but Salamence overcame its shadow control and launched a locked-on Dragon Rush. Fang Yuan told Gluttony Ghost to fight, and it expanded to meet the attack.

  • Gluttony Ghost defeated Yun Guancheng’s Kingdra, leaving the dojo apprentices and Yun Miao astonished by its strength.
  • Yun Guancheng sent out Salamence, whose power and confidence far surpassed Kingdra’s.
  • Salamence’s Flamethrower overwhelmed Gluttony Ghost’s Will-O-Wisp, and Salamence broke free from Gluttony Ghost’s weakened shadow control.
  • Salamence used Dragon Dance, then smashed through Gluttony Ghost’s Double Team with Earthquake and Hyper Voice.
  • Salamence locked onto Gluttony Ghost and charged with Dragon Rush, so Fang Yuan told Gluttony Ghost to fight and it grew enormous.

Ch. 420Fierce Battle! Gluttony Ghost vs. a Pseudo-Legendary!

Fang Yuan and Gluttony Ghost defeated Yun Guancheng's Salamence in a fierce battle by combining powerful Ghost-type moves with a hidden Toxic strategy. The victory stunned the dojo apprentices and Yun Miao, who had expected to test the Fairy Type Elite Four’s junior.

  • Gluttony Ghost formed a massive Will-O-Wisp Armor Giant and met Salamence’s Dragon Rush with an enormous Shadow Ball, burning Salamence as the giant shattered.
  • Yun Guancheng ordered Salamence to use Roost, but Fang Yuan commanded Gluttony Ghost to bind it with Curse; Salamence broke free using Outrage.
  • Gluttony Ghost’s hidden Toxic caused Salamence to suffer a brief mental lapse, allowing Curse and Will-O-Wisp to intensify while Gluttony Ghost attacked from a distance.
  • After more than a minute of attrition, Salamence collapsed, and Yun Miao announced Fang Yuan and Gluttony Ghost as the winners.
  • The dojo apprentices were stunned by the defeat, and Yun Miao realized his attempt to test Fang Yuan had gone differently than expected.

Ch. 421Dragon Den, Quasi-Legendaries, Dominant Lineage

After Fang Yuan defeated Yun Guancheng, Yun Miao ended the inspection and explained how the Dragon Den worked. Fang Yuan learned that its most promising Pokémon belonged to Dominant Lineages and hoped to earn one’s recognition when the Dragon Den opened.

  • After Milotic and Gluttony Ghost received treatment, Yun Miao called Fang Yuan and Yun Guancheng to the reception room and asked Yun Guancheng to explain the Dragon Den.
  • Yun Guancheng told Fang Yuan that the Dragon Den was a moving island reached with a Dragonite guide, where visitors had to earn Pokémon’s recognition or be sent away.
  • Yun Guancheng described the Dragon Den’s Dragon-types and other Pokémon with strong Dragon bloodlines, while Yun Miao explained the choice between a hatchling and a Dragon Den Warrior.
  • Fang Yuan said he preferred raising a Pokémon from scratch but would prioritize one he truly clicked with.
  • Yun Guancheng revealed that the Dragon Den’s Dominant Lineages included Dragonite with natural Extreme Speed talent and Salamence or Garchomp that could control Outrage while remaining calm.
  • Fang Yuan became excited by the prospect of finding a Pokémon with one of these exceptional talents.

Ch. 423Riding Milotic

Fang Yuan obtained permission to patrol Binhai City's Coastline and began training with Milotic by riding on its back. After learning to keep his balance, he tested Milotic's Hydro Pump and nearly fell into the sea.

  • Fang Yuan learned Dragonite would arrive in at least a week and decided to volunteer along the Coastline while training with Milotic.
  • Fang Yuan used a recommendation letter from the Azure Dragon Dojo to obtain permission to enter the Coastline and nearby sea area.
  • Fang Yuan persuaded Milotic to let him ride on its back while Magnezone and Gluttony Ghost escorted them.
  • Fang Yuan learned to balance on Milotic and asked it to fire Hydro Pump, whose recoil nearly knocked him into the water.

Ch. 424Ocean Special Training

Fang Yuan began ocean training with Milotic to improve its riding stability, combat strength, and Healing-type Moves. When a Tentacruel and a group of Tentacool approached, he saw a chance for Milotic to practice healing during a water battle.

  • Fang Yuan planned to teach Milotic Surf, Scald, and Rain Dance as part of its ocean training.
  • Fang Yuan asked Magnezone to teach Milotic Rain Dance and promised to teach Magnezone Electric Terrain afterward.
  • Fang Yuan coached Milotic through Hydro Pump practice while Gluttony Ghost reported a group of hostile Water-type Pokémon approaching.
  • Fang Yuan prepared Milotic to practice Healing-type Moves by fighting the approaching Tentacruel and Tentacool, while Gluttony Ghost protected him.
