Chapter 65: Werewolf Wanderer
Another morning, in the basement.
Gray daylight filtered in through the skylight, while snow drifted outside.
Vaughn was bent over a lab bench. Several Desk Lamps focused their light before him, then Magic gathered and spread it evenly, like a pool of viscous liquid.
Countless Slides floated around him in neat order.
The crimson blood on the Slides gleamed like gemstones, with the occasional magical shimmer passing through it.
"Specimen No. 763!"
At Vaughn's murmured words, one slide floated over to the Microscope while No. 762 automatically withdrew, allowing it to take its place beneath the objective lens.
Time passed amid the tedious verification of one specimen after another. By the time Vaughn straightened up to stretch his aching back, the sky was already bright.
Rubbing his growling stomach, Vaughn stopped for the day. He drew his Wand and gave it a wave. A box on the lab bench opened, automatically storing away the floating Slides, while the Microscope sprouted arms and legs and draped a dust cover over itself.
With a snap of Vaughn's fingers, a sweater, jacket, and Velvet Suit drifted over from the coat rack in the corner.
His lab coat slipped off by itself and stuffed itself into the nearby laundry basket.
His casual clothes swarmed over him instead, slipping onto his body. A thoughtful iron also sprang up and circled him from top to bottom, seemingly searching for wrinkles.
This was the house's Magic.
Vaughn covered his mouth with a yawn and muttered, "The professor really knows how to live..."
