Strength Makes Miracles
Regulus opened the floodgates of Magic Power in his mind, pouring all his reserves, all his channels, and all the Magic Power he usually carefully allocated into his wand all at once.
The feeling of Magic Power surging was completely different from usual.
When Spellcasting, Magic Power originates from within the body, travels along a fixed path to the wand, with a uniform speed and steady flow, and naturally takes shape at the tip of the wand. At full power output, the channels are insufficient.
The Magic Power burst forth, rushing towards the wand along every possible path. When the main path was full, it took a side path; when the side path was full, it squeezed through the gaps in muscles and bones.
His whole body was trembling, the veins in his arms were bulging, and his robe was billowing outwards in the sea breeze.
The Blackthorn felt hot in his palm. This wand had been holding back since it was fed a large amount of Dark Arts at the Christmas Banquet, and now it was finally ready to unleash its full power.
Magic Power flowed through the wand core, causing the entire wand to tremble slightly, as if the Dragon Heartstring inside had been activated under high Magic Power pressure.
The wand emitted a deep hum, which traveled along the shaft to the base of the thumb and index finger, and then into the knuckles. The entire hand could feel the vibration pushing outwards.
The tip of the staff lit up, a yellowish-brown light surging forth, a high-density beam extending outwards from the tip, its color so deep it was almost dark, with a gleaming gray edge. "Quassare!"
The wand is swung down in a reverse motion, and the wrist rotates half an inch at the lowest point.
The spell shot out from the tip of the staff, and the whole world fell silent.
Like after being shocked by a loud bang and experiencing tinnitus, the sound was so loud that the ears automatically shut everything out.
The yellowish-brown beam of light, as thick as an adult's arm, pierced through a distance of several tens of meters from the tip of the staff to the island.
The beam of light itself was silent, but everything it passed through made a sound; the air was displaced, producing a sharp hissing sound like iron being torn apart. The displaced air formed visible, translucent ripples that spread to both sides, layer upon layer.
The ripples were very close together; before one could dissipate, another would catch up, piling up on both sides of the beam to form a dense array of vibrational patterns. The vibrational patterns pushed outward from the center of the beam, becoming wider and wider, until the outermost layer had spread to a position tens of meters above the sea surface, shaking out wrinkles from the low-hanging gray clouds.
The sea surface directly below the beam of light was pressed into a groove.
The seawater didn't have time to flow to either side; it was directly pressed down by air pressure, revealing the dark reefs underneath.
The seaweed and shellfish clinging to the rocks were instantly shattered into powder, and the grayish-white debris was swept up and scattered by the wind.
The seawater surged to both sides, the surging waves crashing against the rock walls on both sides and bouncing back, forming opposing eddies on both sides of the groove. Pulsating oscillations pushed outwards from the tip of the staff wave after wave, each pulse instantly increasing the brightness of the beam's core by a level. The yellowish-brown color changed from dark to light and then to dark again, the vibrational patterns at the edges changing from dark brown to almost white-hot, and then back to dark.
The pulse frequency was not high, about two or three waves per second, but each wave was more intense than the previous one, and the area covered by the ripples became larger with each wave. Fine water mist began to appear in the air, and the air was compressed by the compression waves, causing the temperature to drop sharply.
Water vapor condenses into droplets, drifting in the gaps between the vibrational patterns, illuminated by the yellowish-brown light of the beam, like golden dust suspended in the air. The core of the beam is extremely bright, a yellowish-brown color close to incandescence, while the edges are swirling with deeper and darker vibrational patterns.
The light has a physical texture; looking at it, you can feel the vibration spreading through the air.
Each pulse caused the surrounding air to tremble, and even Regulus, hovering in mid-air, could feel the Levitation Charm beneath his feet swaying slightly. The sky was originally dark and gloomy, with low-hanging clouds, but under the beam of light, the entire sea surface was dyed amber. The bottom of the clouds was illuminated, turning from gray-black to dark bronze, and the reflections of the seawater layered on the low-hanging gray clouds, with spots of light constantly jumping and moving at the bottom of the clouds.
From a distance, it looked as if someone had torn a hole in the gray sky above this sea, letting in a different color of light. The wind no longer blew from the side; the air was pushed aside at an extremely fast speed, forming a shock pressure that spread outwards, and the wind pushed the waves flat on the sea surface.
Regulus's robes and hair were whipped back by the airflow generated by the overflowing Magic Power. The robes crackled behind him, the hem flipped up and clung to his legs, and the buttons at the collar were pressed tightly against his neck by the wind.
The Constant Shield Charm triggered automatically; a silver barrier flashed briefly on the body before retracting.
The barrier flashes in sync with the pulses; it lights up briefly each time a pulse approaches and dims again as the pulse passes. The interplay of flashing and dimming is like a silver lamp that will never be extinguished in a storm.
He stood in the eye of the storm, his body slightly bent backward by the wind, wand in hand, continuously casting spells.
The next moment, the beam of light struck the island.
The brownish-yellow beam of light struck the rock wall. Upon contact, the rock surface did not shatter, explode, or scatter any debris. The island as a whole was pierced by the Magic Power, and the entire island simultaneously received the shockwave.
The rock surface around the point of impact trembled violently, emitting a very low, muffled sound.
The muffled thuds continued, the vibrations rebounding repeatedly within the island, each rebound producing a deeper echo, echo upon echo, transforming from a low growl into a roar.
The corners of his mouth turned up slightly.
carefree.
He rarely felt this way. Usually, when Spellcasting, he was very careful with his resources, using only what he needed and not wasting a single drop.
Full power output, Magic Power surges out of the body, no need to control the flow, no need to allocate a path, it just pours out, as much as it wants, however it wants.
The rays struck the island, causing the entire island to tremble, the sea to shake, and the air to buzz.
He was the source of it all, clutching the magic wand in his hand, Magic Power surging from his body and transforming into a pillar of light that crashed down on the island.
happy.
The island began to crack.
The first crack extends outward from the point of impact, splitting along the joint surface of the granite.
The mineral crystals cracked, the crack paths were jagged, turning at each crystal edge and continuing to tear along the joint surfaces of the next crystal. Shattered stone fragments sprayed out from both sides of the cracks, mixed with the grayish-white dust characteristic of granite, forming small patches of dust mist in the air. The cracks continued to spread, becoming denser and denser.
Regulus raised his Magic Power output to another level.
A continuous low growl emanated from within the island, a mixture of the cracking sounds of expanding fissures within the rock mass and the boiling of the seawater, occasionally punctuated by the crisp sound of rocks being snapped.
The entire island began to disintegrate amid the tremors, splitting open from the middle. Along the main crack, a fissure several meters wide was torn open, extending from the top of the island all the way to the granite base below the sea surface.
Granite slabs began to break off to both sides, with large chunks of rock detaching from the island along the cracks, tumbling through the air and crashing into the sea.
The seawater was pushed aside, forming a giant circular wave centered on the island, which then spread outwards.
The waves were nearly two stories high and pushed out at an extremely fast speed. When they hit the distant sea surface, they created large patches of white foam, leaving behind a bubbling, churning area on the surface of the sea after they dispersed.
The seabirds on the island's summit had all flown away the moment the island cracked open, a dark mass flapping their wings and fleeing towards the distant sea.
Several slow-flying fledglings were struck by falling rocks mid-air and fell into the sea without even making a sound.
The center of the island is now empty; where granite once stood, there is now only a sunken sinkhole.
The edge of the pit continued to collapse, each time taking an entire slab of rock with it and sliding into the water, the splashing water column getting lower each time.
The entire island is collapsing from the middle outwards.
Regulus stopped chanting.
The final shockwave was released from the tip of the staff, leaving a brief trace in the air before dissipating.
The beam of light narrowed, and the yellowish-brown glow on the sea surface gradually dimmed.
First, the vibrations at the edges disappeared, then the brightness at the core dropped from incandescent to dark brown, and finally the entire beam of light retracted to the tip of the wand and vanished. The sky returned to its dark and gloomy state, the coppery hue at the bottom of the clouds faded, the reflection of the seawater dissipated, and the surrounding light suddenly dimmed. His hand holding the wand fell to his sides, his breathing became faster than usual, and his chest heaved.
The adrenaline was still burning in my veins, my palms were slightly sweaty, and the handle of the cane was hot from being gripped.
The sea breeze blew again, and he looked down.
The two peninsulas are still collapsing to both sides, with large chunks of rock, along with debris and foam, crashing into the sea. Each piece that hits the water creates a huge column of water, and the sea surface is churned up by the impact.
The rumbling sound lasted for more than ten seconds, one after another, interspersed with the crackling sound of stones hitting the water, so dense that it was impossible to count them all.
Seawater surged from all directions toward the center, overflowing and filling the space left after the island broke apart.
The water churned for a while, white foam spreading across the grayish-black seawater, then calmed down.
Within seconds, the sea surface returned to normal.
Only a ring of ripples, which was dissipating, continued to move outwards, getting lower and wider, until it merged with the normal waves more than a hundred meters away.
The island is gone.
Regulus floated in mid-air, gazing at the sea.
The wind blew from the west, making his robes flap loudly and his hair sway against his face.
His lips curled upwards, he tried to stop himself, but couldn't.
He laughed for a while, and when he finished laughing, he slowly pressed the corners of his mouth back into place.
An island, a spell, gone.
He tucked the wand back into his sleeve.
The Magic Power consumption was considerable; after nearly a minute of continuous full-power output, about two-thirds of the Magic Power reserves were depleted.
The Star Orbit Meditation was in progress, Magic Power was slowly recovering. He could feel new Magic Power filling his body, not quickly, but steadily. He floated for a while longer, waiting for his Magic Power to recover to a sufficient level, and then Apparition land on the cliff edge.
The sea breeze was still strong, and the waves were still loud, but compared to when I was standing in the air Spellcasting over the island, everything seemed quiet. The sounds of the wind and waves were no longer background noise suppressed by tinnitus; they had returned to the sounds that this world should have.
