Nox had moved to a different spot at the other end of the desk sometime during the day.

It jumped off the table, circled half the classroom, slowly strolled to the window, and crouched down a few steps away from Regulus.

Its deep blue eyes stared out the window. The moon peeked out from behind the clouds, casting a patch of light on the ground. After staring for a moment, it suddenly stretched out its front paw and pounced.

The light spot was missed, and the claws made a soft slapping sound on the floor.

It tilted its head to look at its paw, then pounced again, but still got nothing, so it simply gave up.

Its tail was tucked around its body, and it quietly looked out the window, the moonlight casting a very faint silver-gray glaze on the tips of its fur.

It stopped hissing at Regulus, and with the thing that made the cat uncomfortable gone, the human didn't seem so bad anymore.

Only then did she stroll over to the window and get a little closer to him.

Regulus glanced at the cat at his feet but ignored it.

"That's enough for the Constant Shield Charm for now," he leaned back against the windowsill. "Go back and work on it slowly. There's something else tonight, the exact opposite of it." Lily perked up her ears.

"In the fight against Potter, you yourself said you knew how to guide him in the direction you wanted, but he was too fast, forcing you to execute the plan in time." Lily nodded; this was precisely what bothered her the most.

"Speed and accuracy are good things, but you still need to practice. You can practice to make your hands faster and your incantations more accurate."

But there's always a limit to how fast you can go, and someone will always be faster than you. At that point, your strategy won't work anymore.

Lily tilted her head.

Regulus continued, "So you need to have a backup plan elsewhere. You fight with your brain, but what you lack is the ability to anticipate things earlier."

"If you can sense your opponent's movement or the incantation is about to be cast, and know it even a fraction of an second earlier, your strategy will be perfectly aligned."

Lily's eyes widened slowly. "There's such a thing?"

"Yes," Regulus nodded, "It's different from the Constant Shield Charm. That's Magic Manipulation, which takes years to learn. This is a spell; once you learn it, you can use it immediately."

"Can it be used right now?" Lily leaned closer, her red hair swaying. "What spell? Professor Regulus, teach me!" Regulus's lips curled into a smile, and he said directly, "The Enhanced Senses Charm."

"It governs your senses," he continued, "These in a person, the eyes, ears, nose, skin, corresponding to sight, hearing, smell, and touch."

Normally, you only use a small portion of the information you receive from the environment; the rest is completely missed.

The Enhanced Senses Charm activates and amplifies these senses, while simultaneously making your brain process information much faster for a short period of time.

Lily listened intently.

"The direction of airflow, the precursors to the opponent's muscle exertion, the gathering of Magic Power at the tip of the staff before the spell is fired, the subtle details in sound and light that you would never normally notice..."

"Once the Enhanced Senses Charm is activated, all these things are amplified and sent to your brain in advance. In actual combat, this means you can know what your opponent is going to do a split second earlier."

Lily's breathing quickened; this was exactly what she was missing.

"That sounds good," Regulus said, then changed the subject again, "But it has limitations. It doesn't increase the power of the spell, nor does it make you act faster; it just lets you know a little bit earlier."

"If only I had known a little bit earlier," Lily blurted out, her eyes shining.

"That's enough for you," he nodded firmly, his tone serious. "If it were someone reckless, even if they knew earlier, it wouldn't have mattered; their brains couldn't keep up. You're different; your brain works, and you can keep up."

Lily felt a surge of joy at those words, but quickly suppressed the smile that had just begun to form on her lips.

"There's a price to pay," Regulus continued, "It lasts a very short time, requires all the senses to be on high alert, and puts the mind at a high speed, which is extremely mentally taxing."

"At first, it's overwhelming. So much information floods in all at once, and your brain can't process it all. It just gets more confusing."

Lily frowned. "What should we do then?"

"It's the same principle as the Constant Shield Charm. Learning it is just the beginning; how well you can use it depends on yourself."

He added, "It's not just useful for fighting. In the future, when we're in dangerous places, in the dark, with walls about to collapse, or if there's something in the shadows, activating the Enhanced Senses Charm is much better than not seeing anything at all."

Lily nodded vigorously and wrote these down.

"Pronounce it as Sensus AItus, with the first stress at the beginning, SEN, and the second stress in the middle, AL, SEN-sus AL-tus. Say it softly, don't shout it."

Regulus raised his wand, the tip lightly touching his forehead. "First, touch here with the tip of the wand, then inwards, towards the area that receives the senses, and then" the tip of the wand traced a short arc outwards. "Slice it open, spread the senses outwards, just these two strokes."

He put down his wand. "Try it."

Lily raised her wand to her forehead, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes.

"Sensus Altus."

The tip of the staff remained still.

She frowned, tried again, and found that the gesture was correct, but the stress in her pronunciation was off.

The third time, the emphasis was on the note, but the wrist's arc was too large.

"Make the arc smaller," Regulus observed, patiently correcting, "When you move it inwards, make it more grounded, don't let it float."

In the fourth instance, the tip of the staff touched the space between the eyebrows, paused, and whispered, drawing a short arc outwards. It was done.

Lily froze for a moment, as the world rushed in.

The moonlight was no longer a pure silvery white; the thinner the clouds, the brighter they were, and the thicker they were darker, layer upon layer of light and shadow laid out on the floor, clearly visible. For the first time, she saw that the moonlight actually had color; the area near the window was cooler, with a bluish-white tinge, gradually warming as it moved into the room, casting a dark yellow hue on the old school desk.

She could see the path of every beam of light from the window to the floor, and she could see the fine dust particles churning within them, thousands upon thousands, each one floating alone in her eyes.

The dust in the cracks of the wall, the scratches on the floor, the row of crooked old tables and chairs in the distance—things that are usually lumped together—are now emerging one by one from the shadows, their edges clearly defined.

The night wind outside the window split into several gusts, some brushing against the window frame, others slipping through the door cracks. You could distinguish which were the sounds of the wind rubbing against the stone wall and which were the fluttering of the curtains as they were blown by the wind.

Nox stirred by the window, the tip of her tail brushing the ground with a soft thud, like someone brushing silk against her ear. Regulus's robe fluttered slightly in the wind, the rustling of the fabric close to her ear.

The air smelled of dust, old wood, and the dry mineral smell of the stone bricks on the windowsill after being exposed to the moonlight all night. She had never noticed that the classroom smelled like this before.

The whole world seemed to shrink in size; all the sounds, lights, air currents, and smells rushed into her senses at the same time, so clear they were unreal. She didn't know where to look or which sound to listen to; everything was vying for her attention, and she couldn't tell what was important or what wasn't. Her vision blurred, her head buzzed, and she felt a painful pressure. She swayed and reached out to brace herself against the desk next to her.

"It's always like this the first time, there's just too much information."

Regulus's voice came from very close by, layering in her ears—some of it traveling through the air, some of it reflecting off the walls, and some of the low bass that resonated in his chest.

"This is the first hurdle. Your brain isn't filtering yet, so hang in there, don't rush to shut it down."

Lily blinked hard twice, gritted her teeth, leaned on the table, and slowly breathed heavily.

It turns out this world is so noisy and so full; we usually miss it all.

The Enhanced Senses Charm continued, and the amount of things pouring in kept increasing, but she slowly began to lose some focus.

First, capture Regulus's voice; then try to suppress the others. It's not easy to suppress them completely, but it's better than before.

She took a deep breath, focused her mind, and the information began to slowly become more organized and structured.

I could hear my own heartbeat slowly subsiding in my ears, and the sound of the wind outside the window transformed from a blurry noise into distinct layers of sound. Then came Regulus's breathing, steady and long.

"So much stuff," she gasped, her voice weak.

"It's your first time using it, the spell itself is still weak and you're not very skilled at it," Regulus said with a hint of amusement. "This level of information has already overwhelmed you."

"Once you've mastered it, your spells will be stronger, and you'll be able to receive more and more detailed information. Only then will you be able to reliably pick out what's useful." He looked at her face. "Age also helps. As you get older, your mind will be more stable and your will stronger, and you'll be able to receive more. Right now, you're still young, and it's already quite good that you can use it."

Lily slowly straightened up, supporting herself on the table. In just over ten seconds, sweat beaded on her forehead, and her chest heaved.

She held on, gritting her teeth and persisting for a few more seconds, then withdrew her Magic Power, and the spell dissipated.

The moonlight returned to a silvery white, the wind faded, the scents disappeared, and even the sound of Nox's tail could no longer be heard.

The world suddenly bounced back from excessive clarity to its original state, becoming much darker and slower.

Lily let out a long sigh, and her whole body went limp.

"Tired."

She was panting, and raised her hand to wipe her forehead; her temples were already wet.

Once she caught her breath, she straightened up, her face still flushed, but her eyes were incredibly bright.

Regulus put away his wand and walked over. "Two things tonight, one slow one that will take years to hone, and one fast one that can be used immediately, but whose maximum potential still needs to be developed through practice."

Lily's green eyes crinkled, her earnestness revealing a defiant spirit. "Fine, I'll take them all. I'll master the Constant Shield Charm in a year, and I'll train the Enhanced Senses Charm until I can withstand it."

Regulus looked at her adorable expression and gave her a thumbs up. "Great job."

The moon outside the window has fully emerged from behind the clouds, and its light is even brighter than before.

Lily was covered in sweat, her cheeks were flushed, and the stray hairs at her temples were wet and stuck to her face.

Regulus turned and pushed the open window shut, keeping the night air out and quieting the classroom.

The two rested for a while, waiting for the sweat to cool down.

It's almost ten o'clock.

Lily took her school robe from the coat rack in the corner and put it on. Regulus also put on a robe, and Gold and Silver took theirs off the rack one after the other. Nox was squatting at Lily's feet, his tail curled around her ankle, his deep blue eyes quietly looking up at her.

Lily bent down and picked up the cat. Nox curled up in her arms, resting his chin on the back of her hand, exhaling a small breath of warm air. She lowered her head and rubbed it against the cat's head, then looked up with a smile spreading across her face.

The two walked to the classroom door.

Lily turned around, holding the cat in her arms, her red hair flowing in the moonlight, her face still glistening with the afterglow of sweat.

A smile played on her lips, and her eyes reflected the moon outside the window.

"Goodnight, Professor Regulus." Lily smiled at him.

"Goodnight, Lily." Regulus waved.

She smiled and walked toward the Gryffindor Tower, her light footsteps soon echoing down the Corridor.

Nox peeked out from her embrace, his deep blue eyes glancing over Regulus's shoulder before looking away. The footsteps faded into the distance down the Corridor.
