Tang Wulin was raised by Tang Ziran and Lang Yue, whom he considers his parents without reservation. They are later identified as his adoptive parents, though he remains unaware of his true origins for much of the story. He was unusual from childhood: physically strong, able to eat enormous amounts, and capable of earning thirty thousand Federal Coins through forging over three years. 20 343

At age nine, he visited the Spirit Pagoda to seek a Soul Spirit. A Century Gray Sea Snake recognized him, prompting the Pagoda to investigate his background and provide a Space Storage Soul Tool bracelet as an investment in his potential. 20 The bracelet marked him as a Spirit Pagoda-recognized talent and became the immediate cause of Zhou Changxi's attempt to seize his belongings at East Sea Academy. 28 40

After an Evil Soul Master attacked Tang Ziran and Lang Yue, Tang Wulin was unable to protect them and saw the Guang brothers risk their lives for his family. He resolved to join the Spirit Pagoda so that he could grow stronger, repay those who had helped him, and protect his parents. 49 51 52

Tang Wulin eventually learned that the Golden Dragon King's essence had been sealed inside his body. When Tang Wulin discovered Old Tang's identity as Tang San's Divine Sense, he chose to cooperate with Huo Yuhao and Elder Yi to contain him. After Tang San's memories and power were stripped away, Old Tang was returned to Tang Wulin under a contract that lets Tang Wulin restrain him. 322 323 324

Tang Wulin is hardworking, practical, and strongly driven by family responsibility. Poverty initially motivates his exhausting forging routine, but his ambition is rooted in a desire to support Tang Ziran and Lang Yue and ensure that they can live safely. 49 51

He is deeply grateful toward people who help him. After Guang Long protected his parents, Tang Wulin knelt to thank him and promised repayment despite having little to offer at the time. 51 He similarly values the Spirit Pagoda's support, believing that he must not waste the talent and opportunities it gave him. 51 61
