"But this is the only kind of depraved ritual I know. Isn't it inappropriate to perform it before the sacred Chanis Gate?"
Luther threw Edward's earlier refusal back at him, sounding sincere but dripping with sarcasm.
His words nearly made his teammates burst out laughing, while Edward's face turned even more livid.
Still, this was a task assigned to him by the Cathedral, and Ms. Daly had mediated as well. After mocking Edward to his heart's content and receiving both an apology and a thirty-pound "travel allowance" for every member of the Tingen team, Luther agreed to help.
"He might hold a grudge against you now."
Klein quietly said to Luther.
"Let him."
Luther replied. Edward already had prejudices against them, and given Luther's personality, there was no way he would back down. So what if Edward held a grudge? They were all official Beyonders, forbidden from fighting privately. Who was afraid of whom?
"All right, Luther, everyone's watching you now," Leonard said with a smile from the side. "Show them what you can do!"
Luther nodded. Under everyone's watchful eyes, he took a silver dagger and slowly walked forward. The seal on the cage had already been opened. The flesh-mutated monster was sleeping in the dream Edward had created, lying there in relaxation. Only its wide-open mouth continued to release terrifying, unconscious murmurs.
He approached the monster, sliced open a finger with the dagger, and let his blood drip down drop by drop. By then, the monster's exterior had become utterly horrifying, as though its skin had just been flayed away, leaving its raw flesh exposed. Luther's blood fell onto its body and was quickly absorbed, seeping into its muscles.
"The Lord's glory shall descend upon the earth once more, bringing salvation through depravity to all..."
