Is There a Traitor?

After the meeting, in the library of Saint Samuel Cathedral.

"What do you think of the Nighthawks of our Backlund Diocese?"

Saint Anthony asked with a smile.

"Not bad."

Luther answered calmly. He found himself recalling two familiar faces he had seen earlier: Leonard and Miss Daly.

He no longer wore the blood-red robe or the face shown on his wanted poster.

He wore a pure black suit with a scarlet shirt beneath it. With no tie and his top button undone, he looked almost casual. Using Flesh and Blood Magic, he had changed his appearance, giving his face sharper, harder lines and turning his eyes bloodshot red.

Luther crossed his hands, propped up one leg, and leaned back in his chair. He was still handsome, but the unnaturally beautiful looks and manic air he had once possessed were gone. Now he seemed rational and detached.

Since people at the Church knew him, he had simply become someone entirely unlike the person they remembered.

A black gemstone cufflink was discreetly set into his shirt cuff. It gave him a quieter presence, as unfathomable as the night.

"Heh... This is the first time I've learned the Church has a secret unit like yours..."

Anthony chuckled softly, his eyes flicking across Luther's cufflink. "Well, I don't know what task Ms. Arianna has assigned you, but I'll cooperate."

According to the identity Arianna had prepared for Luther, he came from the Church of Evernight's headquarters, the Deep Darkness Kingdom, and was a specially trained operative. She had also given him the cufflink. It was a Sequence 4 Beyonder Item of the Darkness Pathway. Even when unused, it lent him a deep, somber air that made him seem more like a Beyonder of that Pathway.

But Anthony Stevenson was a Sequence 3 Horror Bishop.
