The Sonia Sea, on a remote island.
The native islanders suddenly saw two ships gradually emerging on the distant sea.
The ships drew near quickly, their outlines growing larger and larger. They dwarfed the natives' small boats, like terrifying beasts bearing down heavily upon them.
The flags atop the two ships flew high: black pirate flags dominated by bloodstained skulls.

Yet upon seeing those terrifying flags, the islanders did not flee. Instead, they cheered, tossed aside their work, and gathered eagerly along the shore.
The two ships anchored offshore. Soon afterward, pirates came down from them and rowed small boats toward the beach.
Some of the boats carried pirates, but even more were loaded with all kinds of supplies.
On the leading boat, a man stood with one foot planted boldly on the bow and his hands on his hips, looking at the islanders crowding around.
"Lord Anderson!"
An excited islander raised both hands and cheered.
"All right, make way, make way."
Anderson smiled as he interacted with the islanders, telling them to step back so his men could come ashore.
His men—over a dozen strong sailors—jumped into the water, which reached their calves.
At a glance from Anderson, they immediately began working. They carried several long tables ashore and set them up along the beach.
Then they piled the various supplies from the boats onto the tables: salt, flour, eggs, sugar, cotton cloth, strong liquor... all things of great importance to the islanders.
