"Looks like you two don't get along."
Still in his hybrid form, Drake removed the long sword and hand axe hanging at his waist. Holding the sword in one hand and the axe in the other, he looked at Nerl, who also had red hair, and spoke slowly.
"You're good with guns, so I moved you somewhere this close to me!"
Before he'd even finished speaking, Drake shot forward.
Though his hybrid form made him look especially massive, Drake was still incredibly fast. In an instant, he was in front of Nerl, swinging his sword and hand axe at the same time.
Clang!
Nerl raised the black rifle in his hands and used its sturdy stock to block Drake's attacks. Seeing the surprise on Drake's face, a faint smile appeared on Nerl's.
"I may be better with a gun, but that doesn't mean I'm bad at close-quarters combat."
Before he'd finished speaking, Nerl kicked Drake's sturdy body. As Drake staggered back slightly, Nerl retreated with the motion, changing his magazine in midair. Before Drake could react, Nerl's black rifle bucked repeatedly in his hands.
Bang, bang, bang!
Seeing Nerl raise his gun, Drake's pupils contracted slightly. He was just about to dodge when a bullet struck his chest, tearing through the tough skin of his hybrid form. His body shifted again, and another bullet hit the wound left by the first, piercing his muscles. He shifted once more, and the third bullet struck the same spot, following the wound left by the previous bullet into his body, where it exploded in an instant.
Pfft—
Drake dropped to one knee, reverted from his hybrid form, and spat out a mouthful of blood.
"Armor-piercing round, Penetrating round, and then an Explosive round. You should be unable to move now."
Nerl let out a long breath as he looked at Drake, who had lost the ability to fight.
"Was that Observation Haki...?"
Drake's eyes were full of frustration as he looked at Nerl, who stood some distance away.
It was awful, building up all his strength only to be crushed in an instant.
What was more, Nerl had seen through every move he made during the fight. Even his attempts to dodge had been anticipated. All three bullets had hit the same spot, and each one had served a different purpose.
In other words, before he fired, Nerl had already foreseen everything.
Only someone who had trained their Observation Haki to an extraordinary degree could do that!
"I've got some talent for Observation Haki."
Having already beaten his opponent, Nerl didn't mind exchanging a few words with him.
Although the fight had lasted only a few seconds, it had taken a lot out of him.
Using his Observation Haki to its absolute limit like that had nearly drained him completely. Even he wouldn't be back to normal anytime soon.
"Why have people like you never made a name for yourselves on the sea before?"
"Probably because we only just came of age. We haven't had time to make waves yet."
"Just came of age..."
Hearing Nerl's answer, Drake felt his injuries grow even worse.
After recovering a little, Nerl sat cross-legged, keeping a distance of more than ten meters from Drake. He held the black rifle in his hands, ready to fire at any moment.
"For now, just sit back and watch with me."
......
Clang!
Rod's long blade clashed with Bastille's sawblade. Then Rod's body flickered, and he appeared ten meters to the side of his opponent. Before Bastille could adjust his stance, Rod flickered in front of him again and swung his blade with force.
Too fast!
Colonel Baro gripped a rifle, his eyes darting around the battlefield, but he couldn't find a good opportunity to shoot.
From the start of the fight, that red-haired bastard had been like a bolt of lightning, circling Rear Admiral Bastille and repeatedly launching slashes. He hadn't managed to do any real damage, but judging by the situation, Rear Admiral Bastille didn't seem able to hurt him either.
As for Baro, he couldn't even catch sight of Rod. He could only see him in the instant the two fighters clashed.
But that brief moment wasn't enough to aim and shoot.
Damn brat!
Unlike Colonel Baro, Bastille could keep up with Rod's speed. After several exchanges, he'd figured out what Rod was doing.
Every time Rod used Shave, he appeared at a different spot, but the distance he moved was incredibly precise—almost exactly the same each time.
There was no doubt that the brat was using Bastille to hone his Shave!
Then...
Bastille blocked another of Rod's slashes. A red gleam flickered in his eyes, and an invisible force wrapped around the sawblade in his hands.
Clang—
Their weapons collided again, and Bastille's sawblade instantly cut through Rod's weapon. Taking advantage of the moment when Rod couldn't use it to propel himself away, Bastille continued his swing and brought the blade down on him.
The enormous sawblade whistled through the air. Its blade alone was bigger than Rod.
Just as the blade was about to hit him, Rod shifted his body slightly with a light step, evading Bastille's lethal slash.
"What a pity!"
Colonel Baro couldn't help exclaiming.
But now that the red-haired bastard had lost his weapon, his defeat was certain!
Bastille thought so too!
He had sensed the trajectory of Rod's attack using his still-unpracticed Observation Haki, then cut through Rod's weapon with his newly mastered Armament Haki. A swordsman who lost his weapon in battle had already lost!
Bastille stomped down hard and launched his first attack. After dozens of defensive exchanges, this was his first time going on the offensive—and it would also be the attack that ended the fight!
"Too bad!"
As if he'd heard Bastille's thoughts, Rod spoke with a faint smile, a pale red gleam flashing in his eyes.
He took two steps back, letting Bastille's massive sawblade sweep past his body and crash into the ground.
Rod pressed his left hand down on Bastille's sawblade, holding it firmly in place so Bastille couldn't swing it again. Then he fixed Bastille with a sharp gaze.
"I'm not just a swordsman!"
Rod pushed off hard. The stones beneath his feet cracked, and he shot forward, appearing in front of Bastille in an instant. He clenched his right hand into a fist, gathered terrifying force, and slammed it into Bastille's horned mask.
Boom!!
The mask on Bastille's face shattered. His body flew backward, crashing through more than a dozen houses before finally landing amid the ruins of the Donquixote Family's base in the center of town.
"But I'll take that sawblade of yours as my spoils!"
"Rear Admiral Bastille!"
Colonel Baro looked on in horror as Bastille was sent flying with one punch.
If even a rear admiral had been knocked away with one punch, what chance did Baro have?
"Won!"
As Rod finished off his opponent, Nia cheered, and her fight also came to an end.
The pink-haired female Marine had been tenacious. She'd even managed to lock one of Nia's legs in a hold, but Nia had used the Black Bars locked around her leg to boost her attack power—and that was what let her knock her opponent out with a single blow.
