Geography and Government

• Port city: Nanohana, known for its perfume 31.
• Ruler: King Nefertari Cobra; his daughter, Vivi, is the princess 32.
• Military: Alabasta has a standing army of 600,000. About a dozen warships, plus smaller vessels, make up only a small portion of the fleet it deploys for peace talks with the Drum Kingdom 31 41.
• Royal guard: Bepo and Jaka are Zoan Devil Fruit users known together as Alabasta's guardian deities 32.

Ancient History

Alabasta's Nefertari family was among the twenty royal families that founded the World Government. Unlike the others, the family did not relocate to Mary Geoise 322 380. Cobra later finds that Queen Lily, the Nefertari ruler of that era, did not return to Alabasta; her younger brother subsequently ruled the kingdom 381.

A Poneglyph lies in a hidden chamber near the royal mausoleum. Cobra protects its existence, while Lindsey discovers Ancient Armament Haki integrated into it 32 35 42.

Major Conflicts

Drum Kingdom provocation

While Crocodile is away, Drum Kingdom king Wapol accuses Alabasta of sheltering a rebel leader. Drum forces attack Alabastan merchant and fishing vessels, prompting a temporary sea ban 30 31. Cobra identifies the attacks as harassment concentrated near coastal routes rather than a conventional invasion 36.

The Donquixote Family's Vergo helps drive the conflict. Peace talks turn into a confrontation in which Vergo demands Alabasta's secret from Cobra; Lindsey intervenes 39 41 42. Lindsey also defeats Flame Calamity King, whose arrival would otherwise have left Alabasta facing heavy casualties 49 50.

Shiki and Enel crisis

Later, floating islands collide with thunderstorms over Alabasta. Island fragments fall into the desert without reported casualties, but high walls seal the country off and communications fail 92 93 98. Enel occupies the Alubarna palace, while Golden Lion Shiki draws pirates into the central desert for his Strongest Man Competition. Pirates and aggressive animals spread across the kingdom 98 100 102.

Cobra evacuates residents into shelters and shifts the King's Army from guerrilla operations to rescue teams 100 102. The fighting damages Alubarna and displaces the royal party, though most sheltered civilians avoid serious harm 116. Government agents subsequently attempt to remove Alabasta's Poneglyphs, including tablets hidden beyond the one found near the mausoleum 121.

About two months later, most areas outside Alubarna have returned to normal life. Devil Fruit users help rebuild the capital: Crocodile clears debris, while Lindsey stabilizes its foundations and excavates stone 129.

Temporary World Conference

At a Temporary World Conference, Cobra agrees to the World Government's proposal to erase traces of antiquity while seeking a meeting with the Five Elders 380. His questions about Queen Lily lead to a confrontation at Panger Castle. Cobra and Vivi flee alongside Dressrosa's King Riku and Rebecca, pursued by the Five Elders 381 383 385.
