Background

Gu Xun'er disappeared from the Ancient Realm while still young. Her father, Gu Yuan, discovered through her Life Token that she remained unharmed, then ordered a secret search rather than publicly exposing the Gu Clan's vulnerability 10. For years, the Black Mist Army failed to locate her despite searching extensively across the Central Plains 325.

Her disappearance followed Zi Yu's use of the system to bind her and Ling Qingzhu as companions, at a cost of 100,000 Merit Points 8. The system subsequently transported Zi Yu to the southeastern Jia Ma Empire, near Maple Forest Town, where the two girls were in danger 10.

In the Jia Ma Empire, Xun'er and Ling Qingzhu were targeted by human traffickers. Zi Yu arrived in time to save them, kill their captors, and treat their injuries. Xun'er and Ling Qingzhu came to trust him deeply after the rescue, with their favorability toward him rising to fifty-five percent 10 11 12.

She spent the following six years living and cultivating with Zi Yu, Ling Qingzhu, and Miao Ke'er. During this period, she became increasingly dependent on Zi Yu and reached the Nine-stage Dou Qi realm 14. The Nine Revolutions Divine Lotus Seed transformed her into a Heavenly Fire Divine Body and stabilized her Gu Clan bloodline to a perfect state 21 42.

When she encountered Xiao Chuxue—a Gu Clan member stationed in the Xiao Clan—Xun'er concealed her identity. She feared that recognition would force her to leave Zi Yu or bring danger to him, choosing to remain at his side instead 42.

At Jia Nan Academy, Xun'er was recruited as an exceptional fourteen-year-old Eight-Star Dou Master. She identified Zi Yu as the fifth genius among their group, reflecting their longstanding closeness 123.

Heavenly Flame Refinement

Zi Yu repeatedly supplied Xun'er with Heavenly Flames suited to the Burning Art. After the Sea Heart Flame raised her to Seven-Star Dou Ling, he gave her the Flame Spirit Annihilation Method to improve her control and combat strength 193 194. She later absorbed the Green Lotus Core Flame and reached Three-Star Dou Wang 331.

Half a year after Zi Yu discussed obtaining the Fallen Heart Flame with Su Qian, he brought Xun'er into the underground world beneath the Heavenly Burning Qi Refining Tower 332 341. During the subsequent incident involving the Yin Desire Flame, she and Zi Yu became intimate. Xun'er expressed happiness rather than resentment, and after the Yin Desire Flame was resolved, Zi Yu helped her refine the Fallen Heart Flame 342. The refinement raised her to Three-Star Dou Emperor and advanced the Burning Art to Earth-tier, middle-rank 343.

When Zi Yu announced his intention to marry her, Xun'er was delighted but briefly worried that a grand wedding would expose her identity to the Gu Clan. She nevertheless resolved to proceed, regarding their relationship as already that of husband and wife in all but name 359.

Disclosure and Conflict with the Gu Clan

After ten years without results, Gu Yuan expanded the search beyond the Central Plains. News of Xun'er's disappearance eventually reached the other ancient clans; the Soul Clan sought to find her as leverage against her father 325 368 467.

Xun'er finally disclosed her Gu Clan origins and her father's identity to Zi Yu and the other women. Her companions reassured her that they would support her, and she felt relieved after revealing the secret 371.

Ling Quan subsequently arrived with the Black Mist Army and used a jade token to confirm her presence. Xun'er refused his request to return immediately, asking him to tell Gu Yuan that she was safe and would visit after reaching the Central Plains 372. When Ling Quan insulted and threatened Zi Yu, she severely injured him with a single blow. She explicitly called Zi Yu her husband and kissed him before the soldiers, making her allegiance unmistakable 373.

Xiao Yi Xian prevented the accompanying Gu Clan elder, Gu Ma, from intervening and defeated him. She spared him for Xun'er's sake. Gu Ma again tried to persuade Xun'er to return, but she remained unmoved, and he withdrew to report to Gu Yuan 374.

The Gu Clan's arrival and formidable strength prompted Xun'er and several of her companions to enter long-term seclusion. Zi Yu provided his Inner World, cultivation resources, and the Purple Spirit Sacred Hall, while leaving Sha Tian to protect them 374.

Reunion with Gu Yuan and Life in the Central Plains

When Gu Yuan personally arrived, Xun'er chose to meet him and address their differences face-to-face. Zi Yu accompanied her with Nangong Xianyin and Sha Tian 465. Their reunion after ten years was emotionally complicated: Xun'er retained affection for her father but had become distant and feared that clan rules might separate her from Zi Yu 466.

Gu Yuan attempted to recruit Zi Yu into the Gu Clan and later urged Xun'er to return for her safety. Zi Yu revealed her Eight-Star Dou Venerate cultivation and assured him that she was protected. Xun'er remained firm in her decision to stay, while promising to return for the Gu Clan's Coming-of-Age Ceremony 466 467.

Zi Yu's household subsequently traveled to the Central Plains and reached the Sacred Evolution Palace headquarters 472. Xun'er was later among the wives who warmly welcomed him back to the main peak of the Star Realm after he finished attending to palace affairs 537.

She is strongly attached to Zi Yu, viewing his protection, guidance, and gifts as proof of his care; after receiving the Burning Art and Fire Cloud Water Flame, she resolved to make him the center of her world 20.

Xun'er can be jealous and sensitive when she feels excluded from Zi Yu's attention or cultivation assistance. She ultimately understands his reasoning, particularly when he delays helping her for her safety or because a treasure is incompatible with her fire attribute 172 173. Her close companions recognize this as a tsundere temperament and know that she responds to sincere reassurance 173.

She is hostile toward unwanted male attention. When Bai Shan repeatedly attempted to approach her and Miao Ke'er, Xun'er directly ordered him to leave and later supported punishing him for continuing to harass them 165 190. She and Miao Ke'er personally beat him again after he ignored their earlier warning 190.

Her gentleness toward Zi Yu and her sisters coexists with a ruthless protective streak. Ling Quan's insults toward Zi Yu caused her to attack without hesitation, surprising companions who normally knew her as warm and serene. She stated that sparing his life was already an act of mercy 373.
