Background / History
The Demon Race originated alongside the fragments of the Nine Heavens Ten Earths Grand Formation. Their Seventy-Two Demon God Pillars are remnants of that ancient formation, while the demons themselves were born as its guardians. 440
Despite being treated as one race, the Demon Race is made up of many fundamentally different species and tribes. Its internal order is governed by strength, predation, and self-interest rather than broad racial solidarity; the major factions were held together principally by the military power of the Sun, Moon, and Star Demon Gods. 373
Humans and demons fought for roughly six thousand years. Demon forces repeatedly invaded human border settlements, carrying out organized massacres against civilians rather than acting as mindless beasts. 95 483
The race began actively hunting Xuan Ye after he annihilated numerous patrols and squads within their territory. Demon leaders later identified him as a potential “Heaven’s Punishment” threat, issuing orders that enhanced ordinary demons sent to locate him. 21 80 173
After Xuan Ye’s Demon God Emperor bloodline was exposed, Feng Xiu attempted to bring him back as a prospective successor. The Moon and Star Demon Gods supported his succession, while A Bao united dissatisfied tribes and Demon Gods into a rebellion to challenge him. 375 415
When Heaven’s Condemnation threatened the Sacred Demon Continent, the surviving Demon Gods activated the incomplete Nine Heavens Ten Earths Grand Formation. They used Xuan Ye as its core and ultimately sacrificed themselves to raise his spiritual power to one million. 454 455
Following Austin Griffin’s death, Xuan Ye judged the surviving demons by their conduct during the human-demon war. He erased most races that remained committed to slaughtering humans, while sparing comparatively non-belligerent groups such as the Moon Demon Race. 483
Society and Power Structure
Demon God Pillars
The Seventy-Two Demon God Pillars are both symbols and sources of the Demon Race’s power. A Demon God can attempt to fuse with their pillar for survival or rebirth, while the pillar itself can be destroyed alongside its master. 435
More than half of the pillars stood empty by the time the race assembled its final grand formation. The remaining pillars and Demon Gods were used as part of Vasak’s last countermeasure against Heaven’s Condemnation. 454
Rule by Strength
The Demon Race recognizes strength as its defining political principle. Feng Xiu permitted A Bao’s rebellion against Xuan Ye on the basis that whoever prevailed would be the more worthy ruler. 415
Low-ranking demons are treated as expendable by much of the upper hierarchy. A Bao executed kneeling low-level demons for submitting to Light, while Feng Xiu openly considered the lives of lesser demons insignificant compared with securing a powerful successor. 72 374
Intelligence and Coordination
The Demon Race maintains patrols, scouting teams, private armies, and intelligence records on human combatants. Its system is portrayed as crude and decentralized: reports often identify human targets only by codenames and traits, while information travels slowly between self-governing races across its vast territory. 75 243
Documented Races and Units
| Race / Unit | Known traits | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Moon Demon Race | Physically and culturally closest to humans; widely involved in commerce throughout demon territory. | Their broad commercial presence makes Moon Demon identities useful for infiltration. 32 35 |
| Heaven-Defying Demonic Dragon Race | The Demon Race’s “true royalty”; adults naturally reach the Eighth Tier. | Known for extreme arrogance, dragon transformations, scales, horns, and immense physical power. 194 205 |
| Sharp Blade Demons | Cunning hunters that feign weakness and use dense terrain and numbers to encircle prey. | Their apparent retreat or weakness can be deliberate bait. 86 |
| Earth Cave Demons | Skilled tunnelers with relatively limited direct offense. | Specialize in earth-based traps and concealed cave ambushes. 86 |
| Shadow Demons | Fast, dangerous attackers. | Bright light magic enrages them; earth-based restraint followed by piercing attacks is more effective. 86 |
| Mind-Bewitching Demons | Use mental control and venom. | Their mental manipulation is less effective against opponents with strong willpower; venom is their more dangerous weapon. 86 |
| Berserk Demons | Appear mad but possess a vulnerable Spiritual Power core. | The core lies beneath the right third rib. 86 |
| Undead Demon Race | A peripheral faction hostile to the Sun, Moon, and Star core clans. | The Death Spirit Demon God joined A Bao’s rebellion out of fear that Xuan Ye would target peripheral tribes first. 415 |
Military Capabilities
- Demon forces deploy patrol teams, reconnaissance units, logistics convoys, village garrisons, elite squads, and large-scale border armies. 21 77 98
- Their armies employ traps and formation barriers to isolate human defenders, strengthen demon combatants, and overwhelm targets through coordinated numerical superiority. 98
- Many demons possess poor eyesight, allowing mist and obscuring tactics to disrupt their formations. 90
- Demons of the Sixth Tier and above can experience instinctive bloodline fear when confronted by certain Heaven’s Punishment-related creatures or powers. 100
- High-ranking Demon Gods can field domains, private armies, Demon God Pillars, and powerful artifacts; however, they become substantially more vulnerable when severed from their pillars. 208 263
Conflict with Humanity
Demon attacks on human settlements included the killing and mutilation of civilians, including pregnant women and infants. These acts were committed by intelligent demon soldiers and officers, reinforcing the Human Race’s view that the conflict was a deliberate war of extermination rather than a struggle against beasts. 95
Xuan Ye regarded this history as an irreconcilable blood feud. Although he acknowledged that the Demon Race consisted of different species, he vowed to kill the bloodthirsty factions he encountered while excluding the Moon and Star Demon Races from his blanket condemnation. 373 374
