Ling Weiyan was a True Immortal of the Chenxing Sword Sect and the isolated master of the Cold Star Sword Palace. Her master, Elder You Lian, was a powerful Heavenly Immortal who had disappeared into a secret realm more than three centuries earlier, leaving Ling Weiyan without reliable backing amid the sect's struggles over its seventy-two Immortal Palaces. 162

She was a close friend of Yunxia Zi, a Lingxu Sect disciple whose suspicious death went unchallenged after Yunxu Zi reached True Immortalhood. Ling Weiyan pursued Yunxu Zi personally, declaring that the matter concerned neither sect: she intended to kill him solely because he had killed her friend. 160
