Background / History

Qingyun Sect is one of Song State's seven major sects, with several Golden Core True Persons presiding over it. Its usual intake consists of Immortal Seedlings with clear family backgrounds and origins, while a smaller portion of disciples are descendants of the sect's True Persons; this makes admission difficult for older rogue cultivators such as Shen Xuan. 117

The sect initially offered ten Foundation Establishment Pills to the ten greatest contributors to its Wilderness Corvée, driving demand for cultivation supplies in surrounding markets. 18 It also maintained a contribution-point system, but did not sell Foundation Establishment Pills to outsiders. 73

After Shen Xuan established his foundation, Lone Peak True Person accepted him as a registered disciple and sent him to support the Feiyun Su Family in Qingyang Prefecture for thirty years. 119 120 During the Dao-Demon Conflict in the prefecture, Qingyun Sect dispatched Foundation Establishment disciples to support local cultivation families, established a merit-exchange point at the Hujian Zhao Family, and accepted verified demon-cultivator heads from sect disciples, family cultivators, and rogue cultivators alike. 187 205

The sect later expanded its alchemical industry through Giant Furnace Alchemy. Its furnaces mass-produced pills from the Qi Refining-stage Yellow Foundation Replenishing Pill to the Foundation Establishment Late-stage Spirit Solidifying Pill, allowing Qingyun Sect to seize much of Song State's lower- and mid-tier spirit-pill market from Medicine God Valley. 350 The eventual settlement required Qingyun Sect to cooperate with the other major sects for a processing fee, while retaining the Qi Refining and early Foundation Establishment pill markets. 350

A subsequent war with Medicine God Valley ended with Qingyun Sect taking Chenxiang Immortal City after winning four of five True Person duels. 419 By the time of the conflict, the sect had grown to roughly forty thousand disciples and five hundred Foundation Establishment cultivators, up from thirty thousand Qi Refining cultivators and three hundred Foundation Establishment cultivators about forty years earlier. 418

Internal Politics

Competition for cultivation resources creates persistent friction between ordinary Foundation Establishment cultivators and True Person direct disciples. Direct disciples receive superior resources, while ordinary elders are responsible for much of the sect's daily work and may form competing factions. 187 272

Resource scarcity prompted the sect's leadership to consider a new assessment system intended to reduce escalating conflicts among disciples. 231 The later reduction of Core Formation direct disciples' support by thirty percent similarly reflected pressure on sect resources. 273

The Spirit Pill Hall's attempt to absorb Shen Xuan into an alchemy-focused role exposed divisions among the True Persons. True Person Hanyu opposed the proposal, while True Person Xuanling and Longevity True Person argued that Shen Xuan's alchemy talent should serve the sect's broader interests. 432 Lingxiao True Person ultimately intervened in the dispute, backing a resolution favorable to Hanyu's position. 433

The sect also suffered infiltration and betrayal. Ge Chengming secretly traded the Hanyu Pill formula to the Thousand-Eyed Demon Venerable for Golden Core Pills, while another suspected high-level disciple prompted Lingxiao True Person to order a major internal sweep. 409 417
