Background

Before his disappearance, Fang Xia brought the Hengyun Sect to its height. The Chu Jiang Empire granted him the title King Dongjiang and awarded the sect the four prefectures of Cloud Mountain, Cross Mountain, Hundred Lakes, and South Dream in perpetuity 91.

He vanished in his sixties after Chu Bohong deceived him into entering the Dingwu Realm to capture demonic beasts. Fang Xia was left behind when the realm closed and remained imprisoned for 136 years, seven months, and nine days. During this confinement, he survived on Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy, cultivated with a basic Witch Tome, and eventually became a Wizard 129.

The Black Armored Giant later bound Fang Xia with the Witch Gu Poison Technique and ordered him to protect Wu Yuan for fifty years. His promised freedom after that service made him immediately accept the role, though Wu Yuan instead treated him as an equal and recognized him as an ancestor of the Hengyun Sect 126.

Appearance

Fang Xia is a middle-aged man of about 1.8 meters with a slender build and unusually thick hair. He typically presents himself in white robes, often carrying a lotus-leaf fan and adopting an elegant, immortal-like bearing 126 129.

  • White-robed and refined in public, with a composed patriarchal demeanor 129 130.
  • Mature, “uncle-type” handsome rather than youthful in appearance 129.
  • His combat aura is drastically different from his casual manner: golden energy surrounds him, and he appears cold and imperial when fighting 134.
  • Uses a white-robed clone that is difficult for even allies to distinguish from his true body 139.

Personality

Fang Xia is exceptionally talkative, irreverent, and playful in private. His prolonged isolation left him desperate for food, conversation, entertainment, and the worldly pleasures he remembered from before his imprisonment; he often fixates on visiting Drunken Moon Residence again 129 130.

Behind this unserious exterior, he is decisive, ruthless, and highly perceptive. He quickly identified the Great Jin Empire and treasure-seeking factions as the major dangers surrounding Wu Yuan, advocated eliminating future threats, and understood the political importance of controlling Cloud Mountain’s Immortal Relic 129.

He is fiercely loyal to Wu Yuan, initially because Wu Yuan’s survival was tied to his own freedom, but later out of genuine trust and gratitude. He calls Wu Yuan “Young Master” in private despite being his ancestor, while acting as his mentor, strategist, and guardian 126 129 430.

Abilities & Skills

Domain Realm and Golden Sword Technique

Fang Xia specializes in the Path of Metal, wielding golden Heaven and Earth power with exceptionally fierce killing intent. His Domain Realm grants him superior battlefield perception, movement, suppression, and spellcasting 134 140.

  • Defeated Qi Sea fourth-level cultivator Wu Jianzhong with a single palm strike 134.
  • Used the Golden Sword Technique to pierce the Great Jin Empire’s Seven Stars Profound Flame Formation 140 141.
  • Combined Domain Realm, True Essence, and array-enhanced spells to fight a formation whose force exceeded ordinary ninth-level Qi Sea cultivators 140.
  • Was recognized as “Number One Under Heaven” after killing six Heavenly Ranking Experts in one battle 141.

Formations and Arrays

Fang Xia is a highly skilled formation master whose expertise makes Cloud Mountain defensible against far stronger opponents 129 130.

  • Rebuilt the flawed Cloud Spring Blood arrangement into a Spirit Gathering Array intended to produce superior Spirit Liquid 130.
  • Established sensing and spirit-confusing formations covering a hundred-mile radius around Cloud Mountain 130.
  • Designed a Killing Array with Void Suppression, Golden Sword Technique, and God Shaking Technique layers 138 140.
  • Used True Sight Technique and close-range probing to locate the critical weakness in the Great Jin formation’s Array Disk 140.
  • Planned future Earth Fire facilities for pill refining and artifact refinement beneath Cloud Mountain 139.

Clone Gu Worm

Fang Xia’s Natal Gu Worm is a Clone Gu Worm, allowing him to leave a clone to remain at Cloud Mountain or jointly control formations while his true body acts elsewhere 139.

  • His clone could preside over the sect-protecting array with Wu Yuan 139.
  • The clone’s appearance and aura were convincing enough that Wu Yuan could not immediately distinguish it from Fang Xia’s true body 139.

Cultivation Knowledge and Guidance

Having received guidance from the Dingwu Realm’s Realm Master and access to Witch lineage methods, Fang Xia possesses knowledge far beyond that of most Central Land cultivators 129 148.

  • Advised Wu Yuan to prioritize becoming a Shaman before pursuing Qi cultivation 131.
  • Recommended an innate flying sword or dagger as Wu Yuan’s Qi-cultivation killing tool, complementing his Body Cultivator path 131.
  • Guided Bu Yu and Huan Jian through Qi Sea cultivation and urged them to accumulate enough True Essence before age limited their prospects 143.
  • Recognized the importance of foundations, magic treasures, faith, resources, and specialized cultivation rather than pursuing every art superficially 131.

Return of the Hengyun Ancestor

After leaving the Dingwu Realm with Wu Yuan, Fang Xia returned to a Hengyun Sect that had survived but declined during his absence. He accepted his public identity as the sect’s ancestral master, criticized its defensive stagnation, and began preparations to expand its territory 129 130.

Defense of Cloud Mountain

Fang Xia transformed Cloud Mountain’s Immortal Relic into the foundation of a new defensive system. Number One Under Heaven

His victory over Great Jin elevated him to the acknowledged strongest figure in the Central Land. He subsequently negotiated peace with Stellar Tower, accepted Great Jin’s territorial concessions, and oversaw Hengyun Sect’s integration of six prefectures 141 142.

Steward of the Central Land

As Wu Yuan’s influence grew beyond the Central Land, Fang Xia became his principal local representative. Wu Yuan entrusted him with Golden Core puppets, Yanqing Palace, and the Central Land Guard treasury, judging him the person most likely to reach the Purple Mansion Realm among the Central Land’s cultivators 285.

Imprisonment and Rescue

While adventuring after reaching the Purple Mansion Realm, Fang Xia acquired part of Qianshe Star Lord’s Legacy and was detained by Shanyue Sect. Li Guang High Immortal tortured him in an attempt to force a confession until Houqu Star Lord intervened on Wu Yuan’s behalf 421 428 429.

Return to Xiasan World

After his rescue, Fang Xia returned to Xiasan World, chose to cultivate steadily rather than seek further dangerous opportunities, and helped Wu Yuan and Wu Yijun manage the world’s development 430 482.
