Brachydios, built like a club, had become completely absorbed in stuffing his face, oblivious to everything else.
For Nergigante, this was an incredibly difficult choice.
The Blaze Dragon Gem seemed to have stolen his soul. The red-glowing Life Energy lingered in Nergigante's mind—but it had already run off, and it was running fast. Chasing after it meant fighting another battle.
By now, Nergigante had grudgingly acknowledged Xingyan's attack power. He had accepted that taking Xingyan down in a short time—in other words, within five minutes—was impossible.
In this situation, Nergigante would allow himself to waste no more than five minutes fighting. No! Three minutes! Two minutes!!
Because every extra second he wasted meant Brachydios would eat more meat!!
Even setting the gem aside, Teostra's corpse was packed with nutrients and Life Energy. 6
"ROAR!!"
The pressing time limit left Nergigante no chance to think things through. When it came to food, he always struggled to control himself. And with Brachydios right in front of him, mouth wide open as he wolfed down meat, the smell of blood only made Nergigante hungrier.
Brachydios's mouth might not have looked very big, but the guy ate fast.
Nergigante spent three seconds in intense contemplation, then decisively chose to finish the meat in front of him first. Refusing to eat meat within arm's reach was a sin he couldn't tolerate—and if another monster finished it all, that would make the sin even worse.
And so, Xingyan got the most precious chance to run.
He ran in long strides toward where he remembered home being. After a good while, he still hadn't heard Nergigante roar. He glanced back in a hurry and saw no dragon chasing him, which finally let him breathe a sigh of relief.
He knew he was safe for the moment.
