Background / History
Land of Whirlpools
Kushina was the “princess” of the Uzumaki clan’s Land of Whirlpools. The land was annihilated during the Third Hokage’s era, leaving her as the sole survivor found by Konoha. Her clan was renowned across the ninja world for formidable chakra, sealing arts, the Mind’s Eye of the Kagura, and the Adamantine Sealing Chains. 48 72
She was confined to Konoha, where her sealing knowledge later influenced Minato Namikaze; Minato’s Four Symbols Seal is identified as an Uzumaki clan technique taught by Kushina. 48 96
Within Naruto’s Seal
A remnant of Kushina’s chakra and consciousness remained in Naruto’s sealing space after her death, allowing her to manifest there and meet Naruto, Minato, Cangwu, and Kurama. She immediately restrained Kurama with her chains and brought the others into her golden chakra space. 101
After learning that Naruto had been made the Nine-Tails’ Jinchūriki and hearing of his mistreatment, Kushina lost control of her chakra and considered a self-destructive sealing technique to remove Kurama. Cangwu instead used Tsukuyomi to show her and Minato Naruto’s childhood memories. 102 103
The experience transformed her view of Konoha. Watching Naruto endure hunger, isolation, public violence, and surveillance led her to reject the village’s “Will of Fire” rhetoric and swear to seek justice for him. 104 105
Return to the Living World
Cangwu proposed preserving Kushina’s chakra body through sealing techniques, Spirit Transformation Technique, and the Nine-Tails Ninja Art. Kushina trained with Kurama’s assistance, while Cangwu left a Wood Release ritual to suppress instability and chakra depletion. 106 108
She learned to project a spirit body beyond Naruto’s seal and investigated Cangwu’s facilities, where she discovered an Impure World Reincarnation body prepared in her likeness. The discovery convinced her that resurrection was possible. 118 119
Kushina first occupied a White Zetsu body through Spirit Transformation Technique. She then merged with the portion of her soul recalled from the Pure Land and underwent a final transfer into her original corpse, aided by Cangwu, Tsunade, and a slug summon. Her heart resumed beating and her body regained vitality, completing her resurrection. 122 123
After Resurrection
Kushina reunited physically with Naruto and was recognized by Sasuke as Mikoto Uchiha’s close friend. She also confronted Kakashi over his failure to visit or protect Naruto after Minato and Kushina’s deaths, though her anger was rooted in concern for Kakashi’s self-destructive guilt. 126 127
During the Konoha Crush crisis, she openly returned to the battlefield and confronted Hiruzen Sarutobi over his broken promise to protect Naruto and the exposure of Naruto’s Jinchūriki identity. 176 183
She later became protective of surviving Uzumaki, particularly Karin, and vowed to hold Kusagakure accountable for its treatment of Uzumaki people. She supports rebuilding the Land of Whirlpools as a safe homeland, using sealing arts and Nine-Tails chakra to strengthen it. 134 135 190
Appearance
Kushina has long red hair and a beautiful face, traits she shares with Naruto. Her restored body resembles her appearance in life and retains a hair clip on the left side of her hair and a dark-green wristband on her left wrist. 101 119
- Long, vivid red hair. 101
- A pronounced verbal tic ending in “dattebane,” mirrored by Naruto’s “dattebayo.” 101 128
- A hair clip worn on the left side of her hair. 119
- A dark-green wristband on her left wrist. 119
- A seal rune on her earlobe after her two soul fragments merged. 123
Personality
Kushina initially appears lively, curious, and openly affectionate. She reacts playfully to unfamiliar situations, expresses gratitude toward Cangwu’s help, and is proud of her rejuvenated appearance. 101 108 119
Her strongest trait is an uncompromising maternal devotion to Naruto. Learning of his childhood suffering overwhelms her with guilt, grief, and rage; she repeatedly apologizes to him and resolves to make those responsible answer for it. 103 105
Kushina is no longer willing to accept deception or sacrifice herself for Konoha’s political ideals. She recognizes manipulation behind the village’s treatment of Naruto and views the “Will of Fire” critically after witnessing how it was used against him. 104 118
Despite her temper, she is not indiscriminately violent. When enraged at Kusagakure, she explicitly distinguishes guilty leadership from innocent civilians, and she shows genuine concern after injuring Kakashi too severely. 126 135
Abilities & Skills
Uzumaki Chakra and Vitality
Kushina possesses the Uzumaki clan’s exceptionally potent chakra and physical resilience. Cangwu states that, had she not been confined to Konoha, she could have become a shinobi no weaker than Minato. 48
- Her chakra can manifest in a powerful crimson form when emotionally provoked. 102 166
- She can absorb Kurama’s chakra at a rate that frightens even Kurama himself. 104
- Her restored body may possess an even stronger Uzumaki physique after the resurrection process. 123
Sealing Jutsu
Kushina is an expert in Uzumaki sealing arts and uses them both offensively and for complex spiritual procedures. Her knowledge was significant enough to teach Minato sealing techniques. 96
- Sealed Kurama within a new chakra space designed for Naruto and Kurama to coexist. 107
- Used sealing formulas to stabilize her chakra body and reduce the risk of dissipation. 106 108
- Applied sealing jutsu to prepare her Impure World Reincarnation body for the reunion of her soul fragments. 122
- Her seals were integral to transferring her existence from a White Zetsu vessel into her restored corpse. 123
Adamantine Sealing Chains
Kushina can manifest the Uzumaki clan’s Adamantine Sealing Chains, powerful chakra chains specialized in restraining targets and suppressing tailed-beast power. 48
- Bound and transported Kurama into her chakra space. 101
- Restrained Minato so completely that he could neither move freely nor speak. 102
- Injured and subdued Kurama before releasing him from Naruto’s original seal. 107
- Assisted Tsunade in binding Jiraiya. 164
- The chains cannot physically affect people inside a Tsukuyomi reconstruction, as shown when they passed through the illusion’s villagers. 104
Spirit Transformation Technique
Under Cangwu’s instruction and Kurama’s guidance, Kushina learned a sealing-based application of the Spirit Transformation Technique. 108 116
- Created a spirit phantom that could leave Naruto’s sealing space and move through the real world. 118
- Used the technique to occupy a White Zetsu body, which gradually transformed to resemble her original form. 122
- Her early chakra-body state was unstable and required seals and Cangwu’s Wood Release ritual for support. 105 108
Nine-Tails Ninja Art
Kushina began studying the Nine-Tails Ninja Art with Kurama after creating a new shared seal space. Kurama stresses that the art requires a connection of hearts and acceptance of his darker side. 107 108
- Cooperates with Kurama rather than treating him solely as a sealed weapon. 104 108
- Planned to combine Nine-Tails chakra with sealing techniques to accelerate the rebuilding and defense of the Land of Whirlpools. 190
Sage Mode
Cangwu later helped Kushina enter Sage Mode after her resurrection. 122
