- Wears black light armor, which can be folded and stored in his small bundle 42 45
- His talent manifests blood-red facial markings and black-red eyes 52
Personality
John is an experienced, confident adventurer who mixes practical mentorship with irreverent humor. He frequently teases Pal, flaunts his Three-Star Adventurer status, and openly pursues attractive women, though Pal regularly criticizes him for this behavior 28 31 32 43.
Beneath this unserious exterior, he is protective of his apprentice and deeply committed to fighting Cultists. He teaches Pal survival, combat, secrecy, money management, and the customs of knighthood, while repeatedly placing himself between Pal and danger 15 42 51 59. His pursuit of the Red Robe is driven by the massacre of the Wind Wolf Capital and the deaths of his mentor and wife 55.
Background / History
John was guided onto the knight's path by a widely traveled Bronze-level adventurer who later died. That mentor had previously served in the Crescent Moon Knight Order 22 147. After reaching Bronze-level himself, John joined the order and might have become its vice-captain if not for the tragedy in the royal capital 147.
The Red Robe orchestrated a massacre in the Wind Wolf Capital that killed John's mentor and wife. John subsequently left the Crescent Moon Knight Order and dedicated his life to hunting Cultists and ultimately killing the Red Robe 55 138.
After arriving at Haystack Village following the Heretic attack, John aids the wounded villagers and is recognized by Church personnel as “Lord John” 9. Old Man Jack trusts him as an Honorary Knight of the Church and allows Pal to travel with him 10. John then becomes Pal's mentor and traveling companion.
In Fluorescent City, John reunites with Vice-Captain Charles and the Crescent Moon Knight Order to pursue the Red Robe 137 138. Before departing again, he leaves Pal the Crescent Moon Badge, a recommendation letter, and two Bronze-level skills, anticipating that he may not return soon 147.
John later encounters Pal during the conflict surrounding the God of Death and Red Robe 219. He is weakened by Red Robe's curse 220 and ultimately dies during the battle. Pal later finds the black gemstone John left behind and reflects that his knightly guide will never return 232.
