Awakening and Innate Soul Power

Martial Souls awaken when a person reaches six years old. They may take the form of animals, plants, or objects; while some assist with daily life, outstanding Martial Souls allow their wielders to cultivate and fight as Soul Masters. 2

• Awakening ceremonies commonly use a Hexagram Array, which stabilizes and amplifies the presiding Soul Master's Soul Power while reducing waste and shielding them from backlash. 27
• A Soul Master of at least Soul Douluo rank can theoretically awaken another person's Martial Soul directly, but doing so consumes immense Soul Power and risks injury or death from depletion or backlash. 27
• A Soul Power Crystal tests Innate Soul Power after awakening. It is a rare Soul Tool available only to Martial Soul Hall and major powers. 27
• Most people awaken with no Soul Power and cannot cultivate. Any amount of Soul Power permits cultivation through meditation. 28
• Innate Full Soul Power is the highest possible Innate Soul Power and provides an exceptional starting point for cultivation. 28

Forms and Classification

Common Forms

Quality Grades

Attributes and Cultivation Paths

A Martial Soul's attributes shape its compatibility with Soul Rings and the types of Soul Skills it can develop. An attribute-less Martial Soul is not necessarily weak: Jiang Hao's Shadow Demon lacks a fixed attribute, giving it unusually broad compatibility and plasticity for acquiring Soul Rings of different attributes. 29

Battle Soul Masters generally follow four cultivation directions:

A powerful Martial Soul need not be limited to one direction. The Six-Winged Angel is described as a balanced Martial Soul capable of strong attack, control, agility, defense, support, and recovery. 283

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings provide Soul Skills and can substantially strengthen or alter a Martial Soul.

• Soul Ring selection is particularly important for Martial Souls with broad compatibility, since different ring attributes can create a more versatile set of Soul Skills. 29
• A Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring can bring multiple Soul Skills and trigger major growth. Qian Xunji's eighth ring granted Angel Fierce Yang Judgment and Angel Crimson Demon Clone while completing his Six-Winged Angel's six-wing form ahead of Titled Douluo rank. 65
• A God-Bestowed Soul Ring may grow according to the user's endurance. Qian Xunji's ninth ring reached a six-hundred-thousand-year limit and raised his Soul Power, physique, and Mental Power. 136
• Martial Soul Clone is generally found on weapon-type Soul Masters. It creates an identical weapon Martial Soul that can stack with other abilities, doubling attack power for a time. A clone's strength depends on the Soul Ring that grants it, ranging from 30% on a ten-year ring to 200% on a hundred-thousand-year ring. 157

Martial Soul Evolution

Martial Souls can evolve through extraordinary opportunities, including Immortal Herbs, powerful Soul Rings, mutation, and inherited bloodline power. Evolution can raise quality, grant ultimate attributes, alter physical form, or awaken domains. 50 65 103

Domains

A domain is an exceptionally rare ability. Ordinarily, a Martial Soul may gain one through the seventh Soul Ring when forming a Martial Soul Avatar, or through the final ninth Soul Ring. 52

Innate Domains are rarer still. They are inherent to the Martial Soul and place their possessors near the top of the Martial Soul hierarchy. 52

Twin Martial Souls

Twin Martial Souls give one person two separate Martial Souls and are treated as an extraordinary talent. Their advantages include a numerical edge, broad multi-path development, and the ability for the Soul Power cultivated through one Martial Soul to strengthen the untrained second Martial Soul. 292

• Historical Twin Martial Soul wielders are stated to possess high-grade Martial Souls rather than weak ones. 292
• A common development method is to complete all nine Soul Rings on the first Martial Soul before adding rings to the second. 176
• Twin Martial Soul wielders can pursue either specialized or mixed combat paths rather than being confined to a single direction. 292
• Compatibility between the two Martial Souls affects ease of use. Bibi Dong can switch freely between her two Spider Emperor Martial Souls because they share the same origin, while Qian Xunji has less seamless control over his tiger Martial Soul because it was granted to him later. 292
