History

Origins and relocation

The Li Family originally came from Immortal Tide Bay in the South Sea and cultivated Sea Beast Companions under the Azure Sea Sect. After Li Tianjue rebelled against the Azure Sea Sect over fifty years earlier, the clan was attacked; its direct line was slaughtered, while a collateral branch escaped to Black Mountain and re-established itself in Divine Wood City. 146

Patriarch Li Haimo preserved the clan during this crisis by abandoning its coastal holdings, relocating the survivors to Black Mountain, and securing entry into the Five Poisons Sect. 1

Subordination to the Five Poisons Sect

As a minor affiliated family, the Li Family sent promising youths to the Five Poisons Sect for cultivation and offered tribute to sect officials. Its patriarch also used bribes to ensure that the family’s tribute passed inspection. 3 5

The family bound sect disciples to the clan through early marriage and childbearing. Children left behind in the family served as practical hostages against defection, as exemplified by Li Haoshan’s loyalty to the sect after becoming a father at fifteen. 3 5

The clan’s limited foundation in poison cultivation left it unaware of some Companion abilities and dependent on its members obtaining techniques and resources from their sect masters. 13 25

Rise under Li Shuidao

Li Shuidao’s rapid growth revitalized the family’s ambitions. Li Haimo concentrated resources on him as the clan’s “Radiant Successor,” granted him access to the Scripture Pavilion and treasury, and elevated him despite his illegitimate birth. 35 129 130 131

Li Shuidao contributed the Ice Jade Palm and Wolf Sealing Technique to the family’s inheritance, arguing that shared techniques would strengthen the entire clan. 132

After the Tian Family targeted the Li Family’s Golden Thorn Mountain resource point and attempted to eliminate Li Tianwu, the Li Family countered through secret-mansion warfare, negotiation, and force. The Tian Family was later wiped out in Shenmu City. 152 168 171

Expansion into Scorpion Valley

The discovery and development of the Heavenly Pool Fire Poison Mine gave the Li Family a new foundation for growth. Li Shuidao became Fortress Master of Heavenly Pool Fortress, while Zhu Hongling was appointed Deputy Fortress Lord after the Li-Zhu alliance. 179 189

The family expanded its own caravan to transport Fire Poison Ore, Cold Moon Flowers, and Underground Ghost Lotuses. 192

Following covert operations against the An Family and political alliances with the Zhu Family, the Li Family relocated much of its strength to Scorpion Valley. It maintained nominally separate Divine Wood City and Scorpion Valley branches to avoid attracting scrutiny from the Five Poisons Sect, which prohibited a single family from openly monopolizing a major Spirit Vein region. 247 257 259

After Li Haimo’s death, Li Shuihong was elected Patriarch, while Li Haohan became Grand Elder. 235

The clan later gained influence comparable to the three great families of the Five Poisons Sect. Multiple smaller families sought its protection, and the Cai Clan became one of twelve families pledged to the Li Clan. 496 499
