Background / History

Yun Yao is the granddaughter of Grandpa Yun and a member of the family that controls Yun City. She first meets Li Yutong when sent to collect him from the Yun Family's antique shop; she drives him through the illusion array concealing Yun City. 40

Her father disappeared around the same period as Li Yutong's father. Both men returned with children, but Yun Yao has never known or met her mother. Her father also refused to remarry, creating a rift with Grandpa Yun. The deaths of her uncles while protecting the Yun Family left her with few close relatives. 42

Initially sheltered by her family, Yun Yao begins accompanying Li Yutong and Jiang Yujie into increasingly dangerous supernatural incidents. She later reflects that these journeys transformed her from a girl afraid to kill even a chicken into someone able to face ghosts and danger. 128 234

During Li Yutong's prolonged absence, Yun Yao becomes physically depleted, emotionally distressed, and suppresses a hostile aura.
