Rumlow felt a sliver of fear from Wei Xiuming, this colossal figure, like the natural pressure from a top predator. In the other man's eyes, he felt like prey awaiting a meal, causing the decisive captain of operations to break out in a cold sweat.
"The Knight System's initial project wasn't external armor; its design was inspired by Doctor Death, so it took the route of human modification. The first hero on our side was a cyborg who underwent full mechanical augmentation," Wei Xiuming explained. "Apart from the brain and respiratory system, all other parts were replaced with bionic prosthetics. Each metallic muscle fiber can exert eighty kilograms of force. The movement system is controlled by a quantum computer made of biological materials, and it can regulate the secretion of brain hormones, temporarily eliminating unnecessary emotions like fear, and can also resist a certain degree of psychic abilities. The energy is supplied by a cold fusion reactor, capable of powering the body for a hundred years. The interior is filled with LCL solution, which dissolves and supplies oxygen and necessary substances to the biological parts, allowing direct absorption through the alveoli. Besides cooling the organs, it provides a degree of impact resistance."
"The external covering is an artificial skin capable of withstanding 6,000-degree heat, which can shield against various detection methods and EMP strikes. It maintains constant temperature and humidity and can secrete artificial sweat, making it indistinguishable from a real person externally. Built-in sensitive components can generate bio-electricity, which is then compiled and written into the brain, allowing the user to retain human-like tactile sensation. Upon entering combat mode, the artificial skin can harden into an armored form, providing protection against high temperatures, impacts, and other threats."
"Even the initial version possessed a punching power of 60 tons, a kicking power of 90 tons, a jumping ability of 25 meters, and a sprint speed of 1.5 seconds for 100 meters. Later additions of anti-gravity engines and low-temperature repulsive particle generators allow for supersonic flight, and even brief excursions into outer space. The only weakness lies in the face, where the sensory systems are concentrated, and this part is additionally equipped with an energy weapon that can form an energy field to project high-temperature flames directly forward."
Rumlow's face showed distress, and he looked towards Nick Fury almost pleadingly. Nick Fury, who had initially not wanted to show any hesitation or weakness in front of his subordinates, now took out his hidden flask and took a drink.
Seeing their reactions, Wei Xiuming subtly shifted his stance, using his massive body to shield Rumlow and Nick Fury. "Of course, because we are on the side of justice, after the recipient's brain and lungs are removed, the remaining body parts will be cryogenically preserved. After retirement, these two organs can be re-transplanted back into the original body through surgery, and they can continue to live as a human."
"This is your unavoidable fate, Rumlow. Becoming Crossbones is your inevitable end. Hail Hydra."
Wei Xiuming used his magnetic field abilities to interfere with the last sentence, ensuring only Rumlow could hear it. He then turned back to Nick Fury. "If you agree, I will produce the various prosthetic limbs for this capable subordinate. It will be the superior Model 3, even better than the initial version, and it will come with twenty-six special abilities."
Nick Fury, as if slightly tipsy, said, "Let him go. Doing that is too inhumane."
As if granted a great pardon, Rumlow hastily left Nick Fury's office. Before leaving, he glanced back at Wei Xiuming with a peculiar look and then prepared to report the situation to his Hydra superior.
A monstrous, mad scientist appeared in Nick Fury's office. He was even trying to dismantle himself and assemble the parts into a machine. And this mad scientist was actually one of their own from Hydra. Such a complex relationship was best left to the intellectuals who analyzed intelligence.
When only the two of them remained in the office, Nick Fury's single eye suddenly sharpened. After reactivating the shielding device, he asked, "Since you can create bionic humans indistinguishable from humans externally, can you, with your technology, create fully intelligent robots that look identical to real people?"
Wei Xiuming thought for a moment and said, "Manufacturing such robots isn't difficult, but making them indistinguishable from real people presents a cost issue. Moreover, most weapon systems would need to be removed. After all, weight, height, stride, body temperature, body odor, subconscious movements, and other factors must match those of a real person, and many parts affect these. Additionally, daily functions like breathing, eating, and excretion would require extra systems, taking up internal space and costing more than a fully weaponized modification."
"Furthermore, the primary control of a bio-modified human is managed by the human brain. Apart from the Boon-type virus, there's no need to worry about electronic virus intrusion. It's not even necessary to implant anything other than the brain, unless one wants the modified individual to retain human habits like smoking."
Pouring himself another half glass of wine, Nick Fury used the motion of drinking to cover his lips as he spoke, "Create two such robots, modeled after me. The funds will be allocated from the portion of Osborn Industries' profits that belongs to S.H.I.E.L.D."
Although he often invited his old acquaintance, Talos, the leader of a small faction of Skrulls, to impersonate him for covert operations that required his personal involvement but needed to be kept secret, there were some things he couldn't let Talos know. Despite their acquaintance and shared interests, Talos was, after all, an alien.
"I can do that, but you'll need to make time for a physical examination to compile your bodily data, including fingerprints, internal organ structures, iris patterns, and so on. Also, samples of sweat, saliva, body cells, hair... you don't need these types of samples," Wei Xiuming said. "If necessary, I can also record curse words and design a fake death system to make them even more lifelike."
Taking another small sip of wine, Nick Fury asked, "May I ask, was the person who was modified willing?"
Wei Xiuming organized his thoughts and said, "His energy system was destroyed, and the designer never considered the risk of being shot down. He fell from a high altitude, fractured his thoracic vertebrae, and lost control of his bowels. Apart from his head and one arm, nothing else on his body could move, and his fingers were extremely unresponsive. Unless by magic or a miracle, he would never be able to stand up again in this lifetime."
"As a soldier, he didn't want to live the rest of his life as a cripple, and with enemies from outer space threatening the entire universe, he accepted the human modification surgery and became an active war machine on the battlefield. The original designer intended to preserve some of his digestive system so they could share fine wine together after the war was won, but that soldier had once been tricked into getting drunk and nearly caused a major incident, so he refused the offer."
