Background / History
Liu Zhengde is Liu Yun's biological brother and Liu Tian's second uncle. He resides in a large estate in the southern mountains of Pei Commandery and is the father of Liu Wenqian and Liu Wenhan. He personally drove to collect Liu Yun, Liu Tian, and his children when the relatives recognized one another. 28 29
Despite his military position and the Liu family's standing, Zhengde believes the Crimson Cloud Empire is nearing decline. He attributes its instability to the failed war, lost colonies and exploration projects, corrupt sale of offices, and the ruling class's excesses; he predicts internal conflict within a decade if conditions do not improve. 29
He welcomes Liu Tian into the family, offers him Lost Empire antiques from his own collection, and gives him a jade pendant that serves as a pass around the estate. 29 30 After Liu Tian warns of a hidden threat, Zhengde takes the warning seriously following their sparring match and begins investigating. 31 32
When Liu Tian encounters Snake and Zhang Huan on Coiling Dragon Mountain, Zhengde leads a search party to find him. He later reshapes the account of Zhang Huan's death so that Liu Tian is publicly presented as having fought to save him, positioning the Liu family to seek favor from City Lord Zhang Ning. 36 37
Zhengde proceeds with his father's hundredth-birthday banquet after Zhang Ning's death, using the event as a fortified trap for the forces targeting the Liu family. Edward's rebels attack the estate, forcing Zhengde into a prolonged battle that exhausts his prepared firearms and heavy weapons. 39 40 43
During the battle, Zhengde is wounded and disarmed by Snake's side, losing his advantage against Edward. He remains composed and prepares a final mutual-destruction contingency before Liu Tian kills Edward. Zhengde then provides cover fire while Liu Tian defeats Snake with the Heart Severing Path. 44
After the conflict and his father's death, Zhengde receives an imperial appointment as City Lord of Pei Commandery and formally takes office roughly a month and a half later. 47 48 50
Appearance
Liu Zhengde is a square-faced man with a visible facial scar. While training, he wears a blue martial-arts uniform; his sweat-soaked clothes reveal a heavily muscled physique. 28 31
- Square face and facial scar. 28
- Lightning-shaped Battle Mark on his forehead when fighting seriously. 31
- Maintains a personally trained martial artist's build. 31
Personality
Zhengde is candid and informal with family, freely discussing politics, military affairs, and his worries for the empire's future with Liu Yun. He is affectionate toward Liu Tian, eager to establish a relationship with his nephew, and insists that Liu Tian accept at least one antique as a welcome gift. 29
He combines a martial artist's competitiveness with a soldier's pragmatism. His pride is wounded after Liu Tian defeats him in their opening exchange, but he immediately becomes serious and reveals his Fighter status rather than dismissing the loss. 31 In crises, he prioritizes preparation, leverage, and survival over strict appearances, as shown by his manipulation of the Zhang Huan incident and his readiness to use mutual destruction against Edward. 37 44
