Background / History

Priestess and Sea Queen

Lan Xi was raised as the Coral Immortal Fish Clan’s priestess after her predecessor was killed by the Wave-Chasing Jiaoren Sea King. The priestess was expected to become the Sea King’s mate in exchange for the Coral Immortal Fish Clan’s protection, leaving Lan Xi facing the same fate. 450

Her childhood friends Beloy and Lang Xuan opposed the arrangement. Lang Xuan challenged the Sea King, won the throne, married Lan Xi, and became the last Sea King of the Wave-Chasing Jiaoren. Lan Xi was thereafter remembered by her own name as “Madam Lan Xi,” rather than merely as the king’s wife. 450

As queen, she became Priest of Two Tribes and was entrusted with military command over both the Wave-Chasing Jiaoren and Coral Immortal Fish clans. She and Lang Xuan later had a daughter, Lang-Gan. 450

Loss of the Wave-Chasing Jiaoren

Lan Xi foresaw the destruction of the Wave-Chasing Jiaoren through the Star Chart but could not prevent Poseidon from devastating the clan. Lang-Gan died in the conflict, while Lang Xuan suffered mortal injuries from Poseidon’s trident. 450

To secure the Coral Immortal Fish Clan’s survival, Lan Xi was forced to kill Lang Xuan herself. His remains became a dark-blue Soul Bone, and the surviving Coral Immortal Fish Clan was relocated to Sun Island with Di Yan’s help. 450

On Sun Island, Lan Xi found support in Nan Yin and Qing Wu while rebuilding a home for her people in the Coral Sea. 450

Second Family and Revenge

While rescuing the injured Deep Sea Emperor Whale, Lan Xi encountered the human Luo Lang Xuan. She spent two years living peacefully with him in the Star Luo Empire, then gave birth to their son, Luo Gu. She left the child in his father’s care and returned to the Coral Sea, intending to eventually avenge Lang Xuan and Lang-Gan. 450

Lan Xi later sent Dan Qing away from Sun Island to awaken Luo Gu’s Soul Beast bloodline. Her secrecy over this act, and the connection between Luo Gu and the Coral Sea, became a source of tension within the island’s clans. 110 111

Final Years

After Nan Li and Dong Yun became gods and Dan Qing and Luo Gu could stand independently, Lan Xi completed the Water God assessment. She used forbidden techniques to recover fragments of Qing Wu’s soul, then passed the remnant soul to Dong Yun. 451

Lan Xi defeated Poseidon and avenged Lang Xuan and Lang-Gan, but was stripped of her Divine Qualification for doing so. She chose not to prolong her life after returning to the Douluo World, leaving the Coral Scepter to Dan Qing before dying peacefully on Sun Island. 451

Appearance

Lan Xi is a striking sea-clan woman with light sky-blue hair, deep-blue eyes, and a flowing Jiaoren Gauze Dress. She is commonly seen carrying the Coral Scepter, the symbol of her priestesshood. 248 450

  • Wears water- and fire-resistant Jiaoren Silk garments. 450
  • Uses a long Coral Scepter as both priestly symbol and weapon. 110 451
  • Bears coral-like markings along her arm and hand after employing forbidden techniques. 136
  • Can manifest a Crescent Moon Bow for long-range combat and archery instruction. 129

Personality

Lan Xi began as mild, hesitant, and deeply constrained by duty to her clan. The destruction of the Wave-Chasing Jiaoren, the deaths of her husband and daughter, and the burden of leading the Coral Immortal Fish Clan hardened her into a determined and often ruthless protector. 450

She is calm, observant, and capable of extraordinary patience, but her concern for her people and those she considers family can lead her to severe measures. She repeatedly uses forbidden techniques despite their cost to her lifespan and body. 113 135 451

As a mentor, Lan Xi is exacting and unsympathetic toward shortcuts. She pushes Nan Li to master her bow without relying on Soul Bones or Soul Tools, believing comfort and overprotection would leave her unprepared for future enemies. 129 132

Despite her cold manner, she is protective of Dan Qing, Nan Li, Dong Yun, and Luo Gu. She sacrifices blood to help Dan Qing take Humanoid Form, trains Nan Li in archery, and watches over Nan Li and Dong Yun during their confrontation with Dragon Bone Village. 135 259

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Lan Xi possesses Twin Martial Souls. Her Star Moon Deer Martial Soul was forcibly awakened at the cost of her lifespan, granting her greater offensive power and strengthening her command of star- and moon-related techniques. 450

  • Reached Titled Douluo status despite being somewhat weaker in raw Soul Power than level ninety-seven Nan Yin. 88 134
  • Her Twin Martial Souls give her combat options beyond the support-oriented heritage of the Coral Immortal Fish Clan. 450
  • Repeated use of forbidden arts and Star Chart observation steadily drained her life force. 451

Star Chart Divination

Lan Xi can use the Star Chart and Eclipse Moon Star Disk to observe destinies and detect looming calamities. 450

  • Teaches that lower-order Soul Skills can remain more efficient than later skills when their Soul Ring ages become comparable. 130
  • Can judge and correct Nan Li’s shooting technique over distances of several hundred li. 129

Mist and Star-Thread Techniques

Lan Xi’s mist-based Soul Skills suppress perception and create precise targeting conditions for her star threads. 324

  • Fourth Soul Skill: Clouds Rise Mist, Stars Moon Guide Path — creates a mist-covered route guided by starlight. 126
  • Eighth Soul Skill: Smoke Envelops Cold Water, Moon Envelops Sand — amplifies the mist’s sensory suppression and lets her star threads lock onto targets with extreme accuracy. 324
  • Uses mist and star threads to mark opponents, making them easier to track and attack. 323 324

Offensive Soul Skills

Lan Xi possesses fast-casting crescent-moon attacks and multiple high-level killing techniques. 328 329

  • First Soul Skill: Perishing Moon — an instantly cast crescent-moon attack. 331
  • Star Prison — a restraining technique capable of trapping powerful opponents. 133 323
  • Demon Shark Meteorfall — one of her Ninth Soul Skills; nearly eliminated Zhuzhao during the Fifth Life Trial. 329
  • Stars Shift and Ginseng Slants — another ability from her Roaring Demon Shark King Soul Ring. 329

Soul Seizing Forbidden Technique

Lan Xi uses the Soul Seizing Forbidden Technique to preserve undispersed souls within Soul Bones. 113

  • Used it on Dong Yun’s father’s Soul Bone in hopes that he could be resurrected if Dong Yun someday surpassed level 100. 113
  • Attempted to use related forbidden arts to retain Qing Wu’s soul, eventually finding tiny soul fragments after becoming a god. 451
  • Its use contributes to the erosion of her lifespan and physical condition. 135 451

Water God Power

After completing the Water God assessment, Lan Xi gained divine power. 451

  • Defeated Poseidon, the Sea God, in their final confrontation. 451

  • Nan Yin — longtime friend from Sun Island; their exchanges are often sharp, but both protect Sun Island and the younger generation. 113 189
