Background

Most Reincarnators appear to have been born into this world and later remembered past lives. They maintain separate identities, often using alcohol-based codenames when contacting one another through their Natal Spirit Temples. Early contacts tend to involve guarded exchanges of information or favors rather than automatic trust 29 37 146 440.

A previous generation had been active for decades before largely disappearing after a purge. Among them, Great Red Robe and Old Lord’s Eyebrow helped prevent a transaction involving the Emperor, buying the next generation twenty years. Their purpose was not effectively passed on: when Hu Ma learned that the current generation was expected to “slaughter Taisui and contend for Destiny,” his trusted contacts knew little of it 362 439 494.

Abilities & Limitations

Natal Spirit Temples

• Each Reincarnator has a Natal Spirit Temple, which permits remote contact through incense and can protect the soul 29 438 651 823.
• Those temples are also a vulnerability: a proposed Demon-Reflecting Mirror could identify their owners, while the force beneath the Imperial Capital destabilized their temples and drew them toward it 651 823.

Cultivation and acquired skills

• Reincarnators practice different sect techniques rather than sharing one fighting style. At Guazhou, they used spirit summoning, specialized weapons, and collected treasures against Old Master Yan 617 620 621.
• Many hesitate to cross the Bridge or reveal their strongest abilities because they fear being noticed by the Ten Clans 613 620.
• Their Natal Spirit Temples give them an advantage in further cultivation. The Non-Ghost realm is described as a possible next step after the Non-Human realm, not an achievement shared by all Reincarnators 826.

History

For years, fear of discovery kept Reincarnators dispersed. The Zhang Family first identified them as “Evil Spirits,” and the Hu Family carried out an earlier purge. A renewed threat prompted a large gathering, where Hu Ma shared what he knew and Miss Red Wine urged investigation rather than an immediate war with the Ten Clans. The gathering granted Hu Ma First Priority Reincarnator status, allowing him to request members’ help with that investigation 627 631 632.

Their cooperation became more visible at Guazhou, where they defeated Old Master Yan, and later at the Imperial Capital, where they disguised themselves as deities to fight Evil Spirits and protect residents. There they were confronted by apparitions of dead Reincarnators; the encounter disrupted their Natal Spirit Temples until Erguotou and Bai raised an altar to counter it 621 822 823.

Hu Ma subsequently told the group that Reincarnators were intended as sacrifices for Taisui. They agreed to help suppress the threat beneath the Imperial Capital. Tieguanyin later publicly described them as remnants of a homeland consumed by Taisui, and Hu Ma called on them to fight for this world. By then, they were acting openly and even risking their lives in its conflicts 818 829 832 877 883.

Relationships

• Hu Ma / Old Bai Gan — A trusted organizer who receives First Priority status. Although accepted as “one of us” through a secret code, he is later identified as a native rather than a Reincarnator 632 813 829.
• Miss Red Wine — Organizes cooperation among regional Reincarnators and advocates caution when the group considers confronting the Ten Clans 289 631.
• The Ten Clans — A source of purges and surveillance, though Hu Ma concludes that not every clan member can detect a Reincarnator 631.
• Taisui — The threat they ultimately organize to resist after learning of their proposed fate as sacrifices 818 832.
