Erguotou first contacts Hu Ma through the Natal Spirit Temple network and introduces him to the world of Night Watchers, Reincarnators, cultivation pillars, and Blood Food. He distinguishes the Night Watcher path from ordinary superficial skills, stressing that Blood Food is essential for maintaining the furnace and empowering techniques against Evil Spirits. 41 57

He operates cautiously in Mingzhou, preferring a quiet and comfortable life over attracting the attention of powerful forces. Although he conceals much of his own ability, he provides Hu Ma with warnings about the Altar Cult, the risks attached to the Red Lantern Society's shopkeeper position, and the danger posed by the Ten Clans. 86 131 178 212

Erguotou is cautious, security-minded, and suspicious of attention. He repeatedly advises Hu Ma to remain hidden, complains about unnecessary risks, and initially keeps his own abilities concealed so he can live peacefully in Mingzhou. 212 303 596

Despite this, he is not passive. He is highly responsive to valuable opportunities, particularly intelligence, incense-distribution rights, Ghost Walker treasures, and Purple Taisui.
