Background / History

Tang San is a God King who rose from a soul master and views the Douluo Continent as both his homeland and the foundation of the Tang Sect. He expects the continent's destiny to flow toward his sect, but discovers that the fate of the Son of the Plane has split among three identical Huo Yuhaos. His divine sense also cannot investigate a mysterious river, revealing an outside force beyond his control. 5

Determined to restore his influence, Tang San treats his daughter Xiao Qi and her split souls as pieces in a larger plan: he intends to bind them to the three Sons of Destiny and Imperial Auspicious Beasts, then use the beasts' sacrifices to exhaust Soul Beast luck. He also orders Da Ming and Er Ming to throw Xiao Qi and later Wang Dong'er into the mysterious river as tests. 19 20 29

As conditions on the continent worsen—including the Holy Spirit Sect's takeover of the Sun Moon Empire and gathering beast tides—Tang San sends a divine sense avatar to the lower realm. The avatar arrives as the twelve-to-thirteen-year-old Tang Yin, intending to obtain the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well's immortal herbs and materials for hidden weapons. 42 43

Tang Yin possesses four martial souls and simulated growth-type soul rings, but his limited body leaves him vulnerable to stronger mortals. When Righteous Qi Xuan Zi blocks his path, Tang San immediately adopts his former alias and becomes Xuan Zi's disciple in Martial Soul Hall, despite having destroyed the organization ten thousand years earlier. 43

Xuan Zi later takes Tang Yin toward the Sun Moon Empire. Tang San is injured by the shockwaves of a high-level battle, abandoned while Xuan Zi joins the fighting, and captured by Silver Haired Kong Deming. Kong Deming seals his power and experiments on his divine soul using a soul stripper. 73 78 92

After severe injury and soul-burning, Tang San is brought back to the God Realm. His soul must undergo one hundred decompositions and recombinations to stabilize, eventually recovering to only one-tenth of its original strength. His resentment grows toward those who failed to rescue him earlier. 103

Tang San is later transported into the Qiankun Valley of Asking Emotions alongside Xiao Wu, where he is forced to relive a reversed version of her sacrifice. Faced with Xiao Wu's death, he chooses to flee rather than die for her; Xiao Wu dies, and Tang San is subsequently captured and killed within the trial. 152 153 154

Fragments of Tang San's god-level soul are later used by Silver Haired Kong Deming to cultivate multiple experimental bodies. Tang San is also fused with Xuan Zi and Yu Xiaogang into Yu Xuan San, whose three consciousnesses struggle for control. 134 135 140
