Background

The Great Gene Era began in 2037 after humanity established the Blue Star Alliance in response to extraterrestrial intelligent life and continuing invasions. The Gene Aptitude Test emerged during this period as a means of identifying and developing human genetic potential. 2

Human genes normally exist in highly stable chains. Gene Liberation Potions temporarily release this stability, allowing existing genes to be strengthened, mutated, evolved, and expressed through the activation of Gene Points. 2

Activation

Gene Liberation Potion

Students who pass the Gene Admission Line receive Gene Liberation Potions, with potion grade determined by their results. Abnormal reactions after injection generally indicate that Gene Points have been liberated or activated; more intense reactions can indicate more points, but may also lead to gene-sequence collapse. 2 4

• E-grade Gene Liberation Potions carry a stated 0.5% gene-collapse rate; collapse causes immediate death. 2
• Students who meet the Dual Excellence Line receive a Gene Activation Stabilization Potion, greatly reducing the likelihood of collapse during testing. 4
• Pre- and post-injection blood comparisons can confirm the number of activated Gene Points and direct students to appropriate system testing. 6
• The three months after injection are a continuous improvement period in which further points may be activated at high frequency. 9
• After this period, activation generally requires sustained training or expensive, controlled special potions. 14

Energy Supply and Cultivation

Energy derived from digestion naturally flows toward organs, activated Gene Points, and—less frequently—unactivated points. Energy Supplement Pills and Potions increase this supply for cultivation. 8 17

• An F-grade Energy Supplement Pill increases available energy for roughly half an hour. 17

Distribution and Initial Direction

The number of activated Gene Points alone does not determine value. Their distribution, compatibility, and ability direction are more important. 6

• Cheng Mo activates eleven points largely concentrated in his stomach, while other students with fewer points possess more specialized directions. 6
• Tang Ting's eight points form a strength-and-speed combination, illustrating how compatible points can provide a useful foundation. 6
• A person's initial ability direction is their easiest direction for later activation, mutation, and evolution. 16
• Activating a point in one body part does not necessarily improve that same body part; Xu Tui's attempts demonstrate that effects can be less direct than the point's location suggests. 32

Gene Ability Chains

A single activated Gene Point may produce only a minor change and becomes increasingly insignificant in later cultivation. Meaningful advancement depends on forming complete Gene Ability Chains. 43

• A typical Gene Ability Chain contains about sixteen Gene Points on average, though stronger or rarer abilities may require more. 32
• The eight-point Penetrating Vision chain has an average activation accuracy of only about 50% even among vision-specialized students; excess activations may later prove useful, useless, or harmful. 43
• Internal Vision practitioners in An Xiaoxue's lineage can achieve at least 70% activation accuracy, with some reaching 90%. 43
• Gene Point locations identified through Internal Vision can be as small as needle tips and may overlap. 46

Dormant and Dominant Genes

Humanity's estimated number of genes has risen from 20,000–30,000 to possibly more than 200,000. Many are dormant, and activating an ability can require the combined effect of multiple genes. 14

• Most human Gene Points are recessive or dormant, making them difficult to activate and develop. 29
• Dominant Gene Points are comparatively easy to activate, strengthen, mutate, and evolve. 29
• Randomly activated points can create side effects or become detrimental rather than contributing to a desired ability chain. 43

A Gene Liberator's grade before mutation establishes their long-term Gene Ability Ceiling. A person who mutates from an F-grade Gene Liberator remains capped at F-grade, while a higher-grade foundation allows corresponding future growth as a Gene Mutant and Gene Evolver. 29

Xu Tui's Anomalous Activation

Xu Tui's fourteen initial Wisdom Heart Gene Points grant him Internal Vision, which he divides into True Internal Vision and Illusory Internal Vision. 8

• True Internal Vision lets him examine physical structures, including muscles, blood vessels, nerves, and internal changes. 8
• Illusory Internal Vision represents activated points as white lights and unactivated points as gray dots, while also showing energy flowing from his stomach throughout his body. 8
• By focusing his consciousness, Xu Tui can influence the direction of this energy and autonomously activate selected Gene Points—an ability for which he finds no public record. 14
• He conceals this ability out of fear that he could be treated as an experimental or observation subject. 14
• His activated calf and hand points improve his left-leg strength, speed, and jumping ability, as well as his finger strength; the latter supports his Bean Flicking Divine Ability. 18
